Sibling rivalry - it makes bad stuff look good.

Normally when it's Tiggy's bath time I have to carry her there.
And then she stands in our double shower looking a bedraggled picture of misery. Her Dad comes to the bathroom door to laugh at her and kid her about how bad life is.
The special treats do not really make up for the horror and the indignity of it all.

Today it was Rastus' turn. I hardly ever bath him as he has short hair and stays clean and he has dry skin and gets dermatitis but he's been itchy and has a fungal infection on one foot so it was time to soap him up with Malaseb.

The usual special treats were deployed and Rastus was bathed and towelled off and his Dad took him back to the living room while I had a shower myself to get all the Malaseb shampoo off.

Tiggy turned up and was most upset that there were no treats for her. She tried to push the shower glass door open and get in with me twice. 8O Where's mine, where's mine? I want what he had ..... the attention and especially the treats.

I can just see the Tigster doing that.

Hope Rastus heals soon.
That Tiggy is such a funny girl
Same thing here on Thursday!
Travis (son) was out, and it takes both of us to bathe his 13 year old min pin. He HATES water. He thrashes around, and has this total bad behavior...and he is a very well trained obedience dog in his day. But for baths he's like a cat...water will melt me!

Then I bathed old Harley basset - and he LOVES baths, in fact he even jumps into the tub under his own power, at 15 yrs old and short legs. He actually lays down in the tub - have to stand him to flip and wash his other side. :)

Then there is Bond...crowding in, Mr Nosy.....why are you bathing them? This is my tub!! :D

Ha, I have something similar with grooming, when the table comes out, Mady and Gracie hide, Virginia doesn't care, but I only ever groom one in any given day, so when the victim has been chosen, the other two (especially if it's Gracie or Mady) are very relieved. But as soon as the grooming is done and I take the victim off the table, it's a mad charge by all three to the treat pantry. They all know that there will be a special après-groom treat. That's the law, and we never deviate from the law. So whatever two did not get groomed get to coast on the sufferings of the groomed one and get a special après-groom treat too. The only benefit the poor victim gets is she get two treats.

Aha and there it is, right there.
Mady and Gracie are thinking.....
Let's go and hide, why put up with grooming if we're going to score the treat anyway?

Fairness is not a dog concept. It's every man err, woman for herself!

You sir have been had!

And that's why Charm will remain an only. I am not wise enough to play these doggie games
Very amusing. I don't think my dogs can count or recognize the different sizes in treats......it's just give me more.

Problem I find with Monty is that he tries to get out of his grooming early when he thinks there is going to be a treat at the end.

Here's my law of grooming that is NEVER broken. Get down from the table either a) on your own time line or b) under your own steam or c) both and there is NO treat handed out.

Tiggy tried bailing from the grooming early only three times. She got no treat and to add insult to injury I plomped her right back up on the grooming table and finished grooming and she's never tried it on again.

She does engage in lots of big sighs and some huffing and puffing and I'm pretty sure there's even some eye rolling goes on, but she doesn't get off until I tell her she can 'Get down'.
My girls are never, ever allowed to jump down from the grooming table. I carry them off.

Me too but Tiggy likes to help  . She does a little hop as I lift her off it's really helpful - NOT!

But I often have the grooming near the sofa and she has been known to use the flat arm rest as a step to gracefully make her way onto the seat cushions and from there the floor. As I said very rarely.
Same here with Teddy. I've never allowed any of my dogs to jump off the table by themselves. My first concern was landing wrong from that height and getting hurt and second would be the bailing out when my back was turned. My table is in the basement and there have been times I've forgotten something upstairs and had to run back up for it. They are either in the same position I left them or maybe just a small adjustment to laying from on their side to head between the front paws. I have had them almost fall off the table by moving to far away from me when standing and that usually scares them enough to quit fidgeting.

The no jump off the table is really good at dog shows for Teddy also. I wouldn't put 100% faith in that he wouldn't jump off that table if I left him alone but I know he's not going to decide to just bail at anytime. I've never treated after grooming. The reward is either a run around the yard to show off or bye bye in the truck.

Well, the other part of the après-grooming treat I say "go show mommy!!!" and they (the grooming victim and the other 2 free-loaders) all rush off to see Kim and she makes a big fuss over how beautiful they are. :D
Mine trots to the table and then puts her paws up then looks back and said lift me. Plonks herself down and looks around and said can't you start grooming me and falls asleep. Then if Elwood goes on the table she comes up looks at him to say what are you doing on my table young boy
