The things we see at dog shows

While we were loading into a dog show yesterday, I saw this -

This is apparently one person's view as 'proper crate sizing' I was pretty much speechless. This woman used this crate for this dog all day. The dog spent anywhere from 5 minutes to over an hour in there. It's not even big enough for it to lay down comfortably. And the worst part was the conditions in the grooming room. The outside temp was around 85-87 with 67% humidity. In this room, the temp was a little higher but the humidity was worse. Caitlyn and I spent as little tine in the grooming room as we needed to once the morning broke and it heated up. I can't imagine how uncomfortable that white dog was... She had a fan, (far right side of photo) aimed at HER and the grooming table!!!

Would I have been out of line if I politely offered her my HUGE crate, (and some of you have seen my monster crate) as I rarely put Caitlyn in it. I was considering it but this woman looked already overly irritated anyway and I didn't wanna knock over the apple cart.

That is amazingly small. I would have thought that someone would have said something to the lady?Poor dog.X
Sadly, not everyone (by a long shot!) at a dog show is like Dawn and Bond for example. :(
The crate I have for Teddy at shows is very large. He has lots of extra room to be comfortable. I know most show people have crates just big enough for the dog to fit in for space issues but I want him to have room and most dog shows space is limited and people and dogs are crammed together so I like to have the extra space for him. Gives him room to stretch out and be cooler with the fan on him. His comfort comes before mine since he is the one wearing the big winter coat year round!

Vance, I've seen plenty of dogs crammed in little crates at shows and feel for them also. A few minutes is one thing, but hours on end is another. I don't know if I would have said anything to her either. You know how some people are. Maybe mention something to the people running the show and not confront the owner. Safer that way for you and they are in charge of the safety issues for the show site anyway.

That is just a sad crate :(

I agree it would be risky to confront the person (but I'm not shy, so there are probably at least 50:50 odds I would have said something). But I sure would have turned the fan towards the dog ;)

But I would have told the show committee. People are really up on dogs suffering in the heat these days.

At our recent show, the huge malamute entry (probably at least 50 of them) was in the reserved space next to the OES. There was this one dog who was beyond stressed and had huge eyes and was lunging at every dog that walked past his crate in the aisle. Growling, barking, gnashing teeth and all. No owner around, nor anyone from their mal group either. So I went over, grabbed a large beach towel from on top of an adjacent crate, and covered the poor dog up. He was so freaked at this point :( He thankfully curled up in the furthest corner of his crate when I wrapped him. Poor dog.
It doesn't take much thought to care for the dogs. If it was a child there would be a lot of uproar about it. I do agree you can't always go up to the owner but I would have thought a "quiet" word to organisers would be enough.x
I would have said something and dam the consequences I am afraid I am like that, one day, my husband assures me, I will get a punch on the nose! That is so sad, poor dog, stupid woman!
I agree. I would have said something to someone. I get so angry with the way people treat both animals and young children. I have went up to parents who were screaming at a child and said something to them just to save the child possibly getting hit. My husband says I will get beat up one day. I have also went in search of people who leave dogs and small children in hot cars. I tend to announce that LOUDLY in the closest store. Some people do not think of how the dogs feel. How would they like to not be able to stand up or lay down. That poor dog!!!!!!!!
oh man that makes me mad! sad too.
