Tomato picker

We have been babying a late tomato for quite a while. The mid-summer Texas heat usually prevents tomatoes from ripening. Winston has been babying it also. A couple days ago it turned a little red, not quite red enough to pick. Win checks it and licks it every day while I water the plant (it's in a pot). He missed watering today and a few minutes ago checked it, decided it was time, picked it and brought it to me! It was only slightly smashed my Sheepie bite but he gladly deposited it in my hand. Then went to the pool to wash the taste out of his mouth!

We missed pics!

What a good helper :D
My son's min pin Dino would not be that kind. He loves tomatoes. Amazing what damage a 10 pound dog can do.

But even worse - one year I was canning tomatoes, and had the jars cooling in rows on a towel on the floor (I ran out of counter space). The next morning I had several jars with loose lids...yep - Dino used his jaws like a can opener and popped lids and sampled out of them.
What a good garden helper!!

Several of mine would have eaten it.
That's adorable!!
What a great little pup to bring you your tomato, even if it did have some slobbers on it.

Dawn, that is so funny about Dina. It's hard to believe such a tiny dog could do that. One thing I have learned is to really respect the strength in dogs jaws. I bet Dino is a big help if you have a can top that won't come off.
Winston thinks our lone tomato plant is his. The summer heat made it take a break and, though it's still very hot, it has started to put blossoms on again. Winston seems to have noticed and checks them our several times a day. He walks up to the plant and sniffs the blossoms like he's checking their health.

If it makes more tomatoes I think they will be his to do with what he wants.
