uh-oh, bone question

I bought Kensie a mesquite flavored bone, biggest, thickest I could find. In 20 minutes she ate 99% before I realized what had happened. Now I'm worried about splinters in her gut.......it will be a long week, carefully monitoring her poops and general nature. No way I thought she could get beyond the cartilage and marrow. Any suggestions on how to hurry the residue through her system, safely? Metamucil?

susan,
what kind of bone? raw or cooked?
I thought they were raw and lightly smoked or dipped in hickory. As quickly and easily as she crunched through it, I wonder. If she is ok after this, totally raw from now on, not the pet store stuff. Gave her a piece of bread immediately........she hates butter  and dinner was extra juicy.
bread is a good idea. she'll probably be alright. my sheepie and lab never experienced any real bones as the butcher gave me the largest raw soup bone i'd ever seen for my afghan. thought like you, he'd chew on ends while I cut the grass. it was gone. I hunted everywhere thinking he tossed it around playing. his pile the next day was white, fine pieces and extremely large quantity. :cow:
What is the bread for?
I was trying to put some mass in her stomach to "move it along". We were hours before dinner. Pumpkin would be another goodie but I know I don't have any............but I do have some left over spaghetti squash.....probably not enough bulk and questionable as to if she'd eat it. Miss Picky.........for such a wide girl.
Our vet told us to use bread, too, when Mady, as a young one, ate some sharp plastic. Apparently it gets around the sharp object and helps make sure it doesn't do any damage on its way out.
So far all is moving well...............

Thank you Suzi, but I have an antler in the living room she no longer is interested in. She has mined the ends of their marrow, but the harder outer layer she too doesn't care for. This is a food driven dog, and very picky at that! If she can't eat it, she's not interested. Her broad beam is no doubt due to lack of interest in exercise. Walks are an anathema . She hasn't investigated the whole front yard, forget the back section, that's another acre with spooky animals around the perimeter........horses. She sure isn't a gabage gut. She has definite likes and hates most.

Harry also is not a chewer. I gave him on of those big bones like the one Kensie ate, and he took his outside an buried it. Someday when Kensie explores the yard for fully, that bone will reappear........... :(
