Canine Caviar

Miss Ellie had elevated proteins in blood/urine. Dr is talking renal disease but I'm not ready to throw her on meds yet. I'm feeding a fairly high protein food, (yes, I'm late getting everyone transferred to lower protein for a pack that is aging). I want to get her on a low protein diet and then have her retested. Canine Caviar was recommended as a food that has the protein level I'm looking for and it supports urinary health.

Anyone have experience with this food?

Hmm, never heard of it. Is it a local to your area food? Who makes it?

And I agree - I would certainly try dietary changes first...good luck :hearts:
Dawn, this is the product. http://www.caninecaviar.com/products/ .

I ordered the lamb kibble with venison green tripe canned.
I don't know what you were feeding for protein levels, or what your vet recommends you lower it to. This does seem like a pretty significant protein level still. But I don't claim any great expertise in canine renal health.

The food ingredients look nice though. I like that they do recommend alternating protein sources - it's one thing I have had wonderful success with. Preventatively, it pays off well. :D
I also prefer a smaller family company over one of the larger ones. They seem to have a better track record. Likely as they still have product and ingredient control. They also have a more vested interest in a quality product vs. cutting corners to increase profits.
