Brushed and fluffed still shaggy?

I am a new owner of a 6 month old english sheepdog. He wasnt properly taken care of by his previous owners who had him living and sleepig outside on their deck. I cleaned him up brushed and dematted his fur then fluffed him up and he is still so shaggy looking. Do some oes have different hair that just won't fluff, always looks shaggy?

Can you post a picture? I'm kinda confused on what you mean. Oes don't fluff up, are you talking about the ones in the shows cuz thats nothing but hairspray and good old fashioned teasing.

At 6 months he should be still going through the coat transition, from puppy to adult. It maybe a combination of that and the fact you had to dematt his hair, and his poor treatment before you got him. He may have to be shaved and start with a new coat but I still don't know what you mean by looks shaggy..
Hair quality and texture really can vary, just like it does with people.
Some just have more hair than others.
As mentioned, a picture would help. :)
Still trying to figure out how to upload a picture on here. The white hair on his head is soft and fluffy, while the grey body hair is a coarse wavy/ crimpy texture hair that is so tangly.
He is adorable! His coat looks pretty normal to me. It also doesn't look like he has gone through his puppy coat to adult coat transition fully yet which is why it would be so tangly all the time. What you described for a coat is pretty normal.

for a picture you copy and paste the red bbc code thats below the picture.

Here he is

My recommendation would be to search the grooming section for ways to deal with the puppy coat transition. It can be frustrating but theres plenty of excellent advice for dealing with it.

Oops..I was still trying to add my pictures while you had posted them for me. Thank you he is a big cutie, and so smart too. He is such a gentle giant and listens so well when I'm home during the days then turns into a wild boar when the kids get home from school. we are still working on a few things but Ive only had him for 4 days now and I just love him to pieces already.

I didn't know if I was missing a secret when it came to grooming or if it was just his fur, the picture where he is on my sons lap was taken right after I brushed him. Does their fur get softer not so shaggy as they age? Also he is 60lbs at 6 month, is that on the average side or big side?

Thanks
The white stays soft. The grey has a soft part and a course guard hair part. As they grey as they get older more and more of the guard hairs come in. Grooming your first sheepie is always a big learning process. I am still learning myself after 2 1/2 yrs.

This is carl's (a member) picture line grooming instructions. (It's awesome!)

You also can start trimming the wispy tips off, that helps even the coat out.
He's still in puppy coat - the gray coming in will be coarser and more dense.
He is still carrying a lot of pupper coat, there all different when they come to the "Change" You have to battle through not only the transition from puppy fluff to a junior coat. Then that coat onto the fully mature coat. Matt fairies breed big time when your OES is transitioning. :?

This might help as to what you can and may expect.

There all different in the time frame for change in coat

Also at the top of this section of the forum read the line grooming essay posted at the top done by carl, helps enormously to learn how to line groom OES right down to the skin. As at transition time, you think there brushed through but can be felted at skin level. Carl has done an amazing post to help those that want to know

Your lil man looks adorable and full of personality congrats on your start of addiction to OES !!! :wag:
Nothing to add regarding the coat, just wanted to say that he is a cutie, congratulations on your new family member!
Thank you, Carls tutorial was very helpful, I found a local store that carries professional grooming supplies today and bought a good pin brush which makes all the difference in the world!! It was a full time job trying to groom without it before. I am able to groom him while he sleeps everywhere aside from his face he hates getting his face done. I still have one side of his face left to go that is still matted, poor guy. I sometimes wonder how some of you manage to have two oes dogs with full coats. I haven't even had the time to do my hair since my oes came along, at least one of us is looking good :0)

This is my go to when people are having a hard time with brushing. It's the best thing I came across when I got Duke and how I found this site. I send a lot of people to this link! :clappurple:
Bloos coat is extremely coarse and very light in colour. Its a nightmare to brush and matts easily. Yes Bloo always looks shaggy. Im so jealous of all these fluffy OES :/ Bloos just born to be scruffy :P
We are on our 4th oes and they have all had slightly different coats. Sprockets is the easiest one that we have owned. I give him a "good brushing" once a week and a "small going over" when I can or if when having a hug there is a mat forming I tackle it there and then if time to.x
