Looking for a puppy!

Good morning everyone!

I am fairly new to OES.org, but am so excited to have found a forum with so much information! My family and I are looking for a puppy that would be ready early summer for their forever home. I have spent A LOT of time in the past few months researching breeders. It has been somewhat overwhelming. Some breeders don't respond to phone calls. Some become offended when you ask questions (including one off the Breeder Referral list for OES Club of America).

Therefore, I putting this out to my OES loving family here....I reside outside of Chicago and am willing to drive to pick up. Does anyone have a preferred breeder that they have purchased from, have had good experiences with, etc.? We are looking for a lovable family pet and have no intention to show. I have had other dogs in the past with severe skin issues and am hoping that by doing my homework to avoid some of those issues this time.

Looking forward to expanding our family some! :ghug:

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Shannon

I have a couple of phone calls/emails in to breeders. One is LambLuv and the other is Loehr's. Here is to hoping! My girls are getting very excited as we narrow down our search! If anyone knows of any reputable breeders within six to eight hours driving distance of Chicago, please let me know!

Hi Shannon and welcome to the forum. So glad you found us and all the information on OES.

Continue using the referral list and sending out calls/emails. I remember doing the same, and got few responses. I took it to mean that no dogs were available during my timeframe. Perhaps, just ask about planned litters and to be put on their waiting list.

As far as questions, never be discouraged. A good and wonderful breeder enjoys talking about their dogs. And don't be offended if they ask you many questions. It's like adopting a child :hearts:

Don't lose hope, sometimes it takes awhile. Please don't be tempted by back yard breeders or pet shop puppies. They are always available, and come with a high price of physical and mental issues. Instead, maybe you could meet some breeders or people in your area to have a hands on experience. Good for you doing all the research now :clappurple:

Best of luck in finding your new baby soon. Keep us posted.

And yet... after all that you still just ended up with Charm :| , I know she's been a bit of a disappointment for you. But that's ok! I am willing to take Charm off your hands and give her a new home! We can work out the details at the Shindig, and then you'll be free to get a new, better puppy! I know, I know, I am such a kind-hearted, generous person to give icky ol'Charm a home, that's just the sorta guy I am. :roses: :roses:

You seem to be amassing quite a collection in the last couple of days! Does this mean Sam is no longer in danger of not finding his way to TN? :sidestep:

No, Sam is still in danger. David has been plotting to puppynap Charm since he first fell in love with her in St. Louis. I would keep a close eye on Sam when he gets to you. With both Murphy and Sam in Tennessee, look out for Ontario Canada license plates circling your neighbourhood!
Shannon,
The more experienced OES folks here can elaborate (or correct me if I'm wrong), but I'm pretty sure Lamluv is a reputable breeder.
I'm not sure of Loehr.
Thanks Mark!

Loehr is not breeding til midsummer, but lambluv may be possible. She is out of town right now. I am calling her back on Monday. I was truly hoping to get a pup soon, as I am off all summer. It will truly help with bonding and training we think.

Hopeful!
Shannon
Loehr (Janet) is a very reputable breeder. She has been breeding for several decades. She shows & finishes her dogs & also does the health testing you hear us talking about. Her granddaughter also came up thru the ranks of junior showmanship.

And yet, that's how I ended up with her, persistence. Sort of how you persistently plot to get her...I thought she was safe this year with all the puppies around in Canada...I'll have to watch what you tell Charm too...she's a naive wide eyed girl around you

Don't worry Sam, I'll keep you safe...I have two years of experience keeping puppies safe. . :clappurple:
