First Summer Haircut

We had planned on cutting Dexter back soon and sort of used that as an excuse to not brush him as much as we should for the last month. We put him on the table yesterday and flat gave up after an hour or so of no headway. He went to the groomer this morning. We told her to try to keep his body about 2" but do what she had to do. We wanted his head left. He looks pretty good but quite a bit shorter than we would have preferred. It will grow out.

When he got home:

Winston missed him so bad he couldn't leave him alone:

All Dex wanted to do is sleep but Win kept guard:

Looks adorable, but I'm curious, why did you want the head left a different length? I just don't get why people do that, the irregularity bothers me lol (ocd much?)
His face is so expressive, it reflects his personality to us. We feel it would lose a lot if it was short.
Those faces are adorable... I find they are pretty expressive looking all clipped down too though, especially Piper, I love her face :)

Clipped down

Clipped down

now that is super cute too :)
Hello. Didn't cut Sprocket last year-was his first summer and it wasn't much of one at that!! Have always cut their hair myself, with scissors, kneeling on the floor. After 30 odd years of that I must say I sort of thought we would ry and leave him with his long coat this summer,so what I have I found myself doing? trimming bits off here and there untill he is now in a "puppy" cut which does look so cute. I alsays ended up with the "shaved" look where some bits had to be shorter due to a mat. One day I will work out how to put photos on here, they always seem to be to big when transfer from my camera to here. Allyson.x
Sorry about the need for the shorty shave...but he's still adorable. And he looks darn happy! :D

I just scissored Chewie down on Sunday night to about an inch long, but this time kept some head coat - about 2 inches - with enough for a little topknot or pigtails. He was funny looking on Monday though, I hadn't done his head, nor washed him to fluff the body up. We were pack hiking (10 miles, him carrying his pack), and after the mud on the one last week, just had to wait to bathe! Turned out is was a much dryer trail, but who knew?? It's spring!
This groomer bathes then cuts but doesn't bathe again so Dex needs a bath already. As we all know mats hold in a lot of stink!

I asked him a little while ago if he wants a bath and he perked up and started down the hall, he knows he stinks!

Good boy! :high5:

I cut, then bathe/blow dry, then retrim. I did the baths on both yesterday, and touched up Chewie - looks so much better, and smells great!
The other groomer we used bathed, then cut, then bathed again and retrimmed. I think that is over-bathing. I like your process, it makes good sense to me.
Looks so cute :) x Love the fluffy head hehe
I think that OES were made to lounge around on Persian carpets. :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
This will be Ramsey soon too. I DON'T WANT TO! But with summer coming, and his obsession with swimming and the pool, it's a better solution for all. I was thinking maybe a lil mohawk, haha.

Winston and Dexter look adorable!!!!
We're really looking forward to how fast they dry after their daily swim which starts soon. I'm tempted to coax them into the pool now but their Mom says its still too cold (water temp was 74 yesterday, air was 85). They're Texas dogs!
You are lucky! So warm already!! Haha! We're opening ours this weekend, but that certainly doesn't stop them from standing on the cover, waiting. LOL.

So those covers really do hold a sheepdog? I was planning a pool and worried about when closed, with the cover falling in when they would go on it. A friend at work had a dog that drowned because he got caught up in the closed pool cover
OMG, that is scary. That cover holds him and my other dog at the same time, and we have had people run across it, lol. It's one of those elephant types, you can see how it straps down and across. I have friends who have the other covers tho, the ones that aren't tight, that if someone or a dog fell in, they could totally get trapped. The ones that have the water or sand bags that kinda hold the sides up.

Buttt, same as anything, I don't leave them out there on the pool side unsupervised, just in case. We have a fence between the pool and yard. Which is nice to block em, but that cover really is amazing.
Our guys will not gr in the pool unless one of us get in first. They often stand by the steps as if to say "Would you guys hurry up?"

Dex has gotten in the hot tub by himself, he always asked first but if we didn't notice him ask it was as good as permission. The hot tub was not hot.
Oh to have temps that are warm enough to just paddle!! Dull, windy Kent (GB) is certanly not!!! Sprocket has taught himself to go round the muddy puddles etc on our walks. Yesterday we went to a new place for us-hadn't been there for years and wondered if be a housing estate now! but was still wonderfull area of grassy walks round trees and lakes. Sprox went to a very shallow stoney bit for a drink but wouldn't get his feet wet. We wash his feet in a bucket of warm water after a muddy walk but this was bigger-scarey mum, help!!!x
Dexter hates to get his feet wet, won't go in the yard after a rain or sprinklers until the grass dries a little. Winston doesn't care, he bounds out in anything!

Dex is very careful to only get his face in the pool when he snorkels, Winston now dips his front feet in as well! They both drive their face into the pool up to their eyes then blow bubbles. Not a pleasant surprise when you let them in and didn't realize they had a drink. That still isn't as bad as when someone forgets and leaves a toilet set up! Their radar finds it every time!
Dexter is VERY cute....He will have a great summer in his summer do.... :hearts: :hearts:
Baxter is the one at our house that loves the pool--luckily he won't go in without permission but he too likes to put his face in the water and blow bubbles :D . summer and winter. It is warm enough here that we don't shut down our pool so it is available year round for a drink. The upside is that he has never had a stained mouth--it is snowy white. I think it is the regular 'chlorine treatment'-

Baley won't have any part of the pool--but does like to lay beside it when we are in.

Murphy has fallen in twice--once when I was in the middle of grooming and he needed to potty--let him go out without his topknot because I was going to put him back on the grooming table and finish-- he walked right into the pool. 8O That added another two hours to that grooming session.
The second time he was playing with my daughter's little Havanese who is like a Greyhound when he runs---Murphy was chasing him and didn't make the cut at the corner and fell right in.

As a result--I still won't let him out in the pool area without me supervising. I really hope that he won't have any interest in going in this summer!
