flea treatments

Ive just read on a grooming forum that some flea treatments can be harmful to old english sheepdogs
Can anybody enlighten me if its true and also which ones if it is

Not all dogs carry it, so best to have your dog tested. None of mine ever have been carriers.
I know both mine tested positive for the mutation for heartworm. They can't take Ivertimin ( spelling?). My Vet said it would take a super high\ does to get a reaction but why chance it? We use Trifexis. For heartworm and it also kills fleas and ticks.

I also have used Advantrix flea and tick topical. My male gets an allergic reaction to it and scratches a lot. My female is okay with it. Doomed if you do an doomed if you don't!
