herding gear questions

So I have finally done it, convinced David to let me have fun with herding too. He will work with Mady, I will work with Gracie. Virginia gets to go in when the other girls get a break. So my big question is what shoes do I wear?? I am not trying to be fashionable (Lord knows no one could accuse me of that) but I do want to be comfortable and mostly to not wipe out. Any advice?

Think mud and poop......traction. Be nice if you could easily remove them afterwards so you don't have to dig out muck before you get into the car.
This is what I wore herding at nationals last fall - all I did was change my shoes (and put on new deoderant!) when we raced to get to the match....The shoes I wear for herding are high top hiking boots/tennies - they are Nike's that I had forever and have made them my dedicated herding shoes.

This time it was jeans, tennies, hoodie and a t-shirt -

Jeans, the Nike boot/shoes, and a nylon pullover.

I also have a pair of rubber over shoes (Tingley Rubbers) that slip over my shoes. I leave them in my car, so if it's muddy or wet, I can slip them over my shoes to keep them dry.

I'm excited for you that you are going to do herding with Gracie!!! :roses:
I always wore jeans, a long sleeve t-shirt, hoodie (polar fleece if it's cold) and I took a water and wind proof jacket because I hate the cold and really feel it. I wore elastic sided boots but I never went if it was really wet and muddy. I'd want either rubber boots or some kind of water proof cover for my elastic sided boots if I was going to be out in really wet conditions.
Thanks, gang. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I somehow manage to stay upright. I still think that all of these 'training' things we do, obedience, agility, herding, are less about training the dogs and more about training the uprights. Oh, and if David is reading this, let the instructor instruct me. I swear I will fling sheep droppings at you if you yell out instructions from the sidelines.
I'm hoping Virginia will clean the clocks of her youngsters. Go Virginia!! Age and humility will win out. She may poop out early but here's hoping her grey matter is more mature.

We old gals must stick together.

Most of all............have a lot of fun!! I'm convinced the sheep are laughing ..........

I think that both the dogs and the sheep are laughing! At us! And Virginia lately has been acting like a puppy, full of beans, so I am looking forward to seeing her on the sheep. I love that our trainer lets us rotate them, so that they each get their chance. The only difference this year is that I will be part of the rotation!! I bought new shoes today just for it (figured sandals and sheep poop don't mix well).
I wear jeans and construction type boots with traction on the bottom and lace up on top. The mud or grass does get stuck between the traction lines on their sole but they work great keeping me from slipping around. We've herded only twice and both times after rain...and lots of mud! These boots worked great for me.
Can I come and watch? I want to see the flinging of the sheep poop.

You are sure that David won't be able to keep quiet, eh?
