Dog let himself into dog park

My husband went to the dog park yesterday and a huge fella let himself in. Looked like a tibetan mastiff, malamute mix. He made our wolf hybrid look small! He didn't have an owner or collar so after playing he brought him home. He attached himself to our wolf hybrid, followed him around like a puppy. He was well fed, kind of matted, obviously had been in a house before, didn't get up on the furniture, tolerant of lily using him like a trampoline. (sheepies  ) Just an all around good guy.

Well we found out he had escaped from the humane society earlier that day and ran away to the dog park. Clever boy! He was so happy at our house, I felt so bad taking him back especially when he leaned up against me and refused to move when they tried to take him inside.
He is the kind of dog that makes me wish I could have another. Hopefully he will make someone extremely happy.

Sheffield
This picture really doesn't do him justice. Hes a looker and you can't tell how gigantic he is.

Wow, I'm surprised you didn't end this by saying you're keeping him. :D Dogs. Don't you just wish you could give 'em all a loving home. :|
What a smart boy...one good way to get exposure to potential adopters!!!

I would have been hard pressed to bring him back though :(
Any chance you could foster him?

I wish we could foster him but honestly he would end up being a foster failure. We would keep him. We have to consider our hound and with his arthritis it wouldn't be fair to him to have another young playful dog. Especially one so large (mastiff sized). One playful bump and it could really hurt him. If we didn't have Giddy we would foster fail Sheffield in a heartbeat.
Are there any all-breed rescues in the area that could possibly help him?
I know they probably already have a ton of dogs to help, but this guy now has a cool & special backstory.
He's lovely...I'd feel the same as you. Hope he finds a good home.
Hope he finds good people.......and glad we don't live closer! All we have here a pit x's in the shelter. He would be a fine find.
:aww: :aww: beautiful guy! Smart and obviously has personality--it must have been really hard to take him back!

Hope he finds a wonderful home!
Hi,Please please do me a favor and after checking he hasn't yet been adopted post that story with his pic on Craigs List in your area and also ask the shelter if you could add this little tidbit on his bio.

That could make the difference to his adoption. I've written hundreds of bio's for cats and while some members of the shelter staff thought I had a magic formula as all those I had written bios for, were then requested for viewings. I didn't have a magic formula but wrote from the animals perspective (borrowed that secret from Disney movies). People then could make a connection with the animal and this boy looks as if he could say how much he wants a home and others to play with. Let us know how it works out and in the meantime perhaps he was lucky and was adopted since then.

I also understand the difficulty you must have had returning him as your first priority as is mine is always to the ones in my home first. Lets all hope this boy finds a forever home.
