Peeing on self/PLEASE help

Did not know for sure where to post this so here I am! we have recently adopted a young boy who will be 2 at the end of April, the problem we have is that EVERY TIME he goes to pee, he pees on his front leg! can anyone give us any advice on what to do, we have to completley was his legs when he comes in, and if we take him somewhere and he does this it is a huge problem as well, I'm not sure what the problem is but we need help ASAP!

Sorry to tell you but my boy will be 7 this year and still does not lift his leg! Your guy is young. He'll learn to go by stretching his front legs out more so they don't get hit  This too shall pass :)
Lol! Had to answer. Got the same problem but I'm hoping he'll grow it of it. Bosley is only 13 months. I have a set of "Whizzers". Not sure if that's the correct name but they're basically nylon leggings. My breeder gave them to me. I only use these before a show or important event as they're a pain in the butt! The easiest thing I've found is Royal Crown grooming spray or CC Ice on Ice. These basically close the pores on the hair and allow the pee to run off. These were suggestions from my breeder. Not perfect but definitely cuts down on the maintenance. Hopefully someone else will have better ideas.
Haha get used to it. I keep wipes handy. Every once in a while he misses his legs and I get so excited for him/me. The best time is when he has just been groomed and is all white and fluffy then he never seems to miss.
By the way Duke does lift his leg and is almost 6yrs old. I also use spray conditioners and other sprays to keep the hair on his legs from holding too much pee. We thought about the sock thing but it seems like a pain in the butt so I just deal. Sometimes when we are on a walk I have him walk through a stream, in the lake or right now the snow after he pees. Still have the wet legs to deal with but not the yellow legs.
Oh my goodness! at least I know I'm not the only one! I've been worried about also drying his skin out, for those of you who know could you please post the names of the conditioners AND whiting sprays, shampoos ect. that you use? I have asked the groomers here and all they tell me is I can have him groomed and they can get the yellow out.I have heard about the white on white and cc but where do you buy the stuff. as far as the conditioner spray that it runs of the fur where is that????? and the 'wizzers" , is there someplace to show how to make them-I don't sew but am willing to learn, or where on earth can I buy them. this is cutting down on his going bye bye time as well because he SOAKS his legs and then he's a mess to try to wash to get in the car. I am soooo sorry for all the questions but I have been at wits end, we want to have him in full coat and we would like him to have pretty white legs, not yellow! also he is a couch potatoe and our couch is beige, as well as the carpet, and he sleeps with our boy! PLEASE, PLEASE post any names of products and where to get them the srpray that allows it to run off would be great!, does anyone have any idea why the little guys do this-well huge little guys- sometimes I think he just gets tired of holding his leg up? and he's really a mess when he doesn't lift at all then pees on legs, belly , and chest!!! :? we sure do love this lug but boy what a mess!
I'm sorry you are having this issue. Having male dogs that pee on their legs is really not common at all. (I grew up showing, hunting and field trialing dogs, met my husband through dog activities, and we always have 4-6 dogs at any given time...and I'm not young either ;) ) Most often we have male dogs - right now we are at 1 female and 6 males, for example.

We have had 4 male OES and never had one of them pee on their legs either. Our youngest, Bond, is 17 months old now, and still squats, and does not pee on himself.

I'm sorry you are having this issue...and while it apparently does happen with some dogs, it just is not very usual or normally a problem.
I wouldn't have a clue how to make the Whizzers but they are basically tubes of material with elastic at both ends. I have used hospital socks in a pinch. The ones with the grippy soles....they worked well too. The grooming sprays can be found at most dog shows or from the various online dog stores. Pet edge, Show Dog, Cherrybrook, etc. Chris Christensen Ice on Ice works fine but I like the smell of Crown Royal. Make sure it's the Formula #3 which is the correct one for an OES coat. I think it all comes down to personal choice as to what works for your guy. I've had 2 pet OES in the past but after being shown bow much easier it is to groom with the right products, I will never be without a grooming spray again! Lol!
thank you for your help on this, we are going to order some of the spray and hopefully it will repell some of this and make ours and his life alittle more enjoyable, I don't want to dry his poor skin out and we really don't want a yellow pooch! I think I might try to make some Whizzers as well, do you have a suggestion for moisturizer as well? thanks again, we really appreciate the help and it is at least helpful to know there are others that do this, the vet says there is no hip or leg problems I think he is just tired of holding his leg up and really doesn't care-goofball! :)
I currently have 3 males and in fact have only had male sheepies. I have never had a problem with peeing on the legs. Maybe when very young it would happen occasionally.

I would make sure that when they are groomed or if you do the grooming make sure you are not cutting the hair on the end of the penis--if you do it can effect the stream.
This has brought up sooooooooo many memories ....not good ones (sorry 6girls!)

MISERY ....We always doubled up on regular mens socks or the kids soccer socks because one pair would just soak through. The nylon pairs sound AMAZING and so smart. I'd keep at least 5 pairs on me (you have no idea how many socks I'd go through in a day).

If he peed on himself, I did use ICE on ICE conditioner spray...not spraying it on because that will do NOTHINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG for a dog that has peed full force on one leg. I would drown that leg in it. Then use a towel to dry off. Just watering the leg down with a hose wasn't effective either because the smell was so strong. It was only pouring huge amounts of ICE ON ICE on the towel and then scrubbing it in the leg that would help for me.

Good luck!! I seriously feel terrible for anyone who has to go through this on a daily basis (and has an inside doggie which we did).
OMG! That picture is adorable :hearts: :hearts:

Ditto there you need how do we put this nicely, heck I'll just say it, a little beard or tufts at the end of there thingy so the thingy dont go crazy with a major squirt and shoot upwards with the stream hitting the back of the front legs. It sort of absorbs the fly away jet stream and it shooting forward. 8)

Been years since I had a male and leaving a "Moustache, beard, goatie a bit of hair dangling at the end heck what-ever you want to call it" :?   Stopped the jet stream spraying on the front legs. My boy still squats and am quite happy with that as stops it all dribbling down the inside of the back legs, on occassions he does lift the leg, but not encouraging that as dribbles happen all the way down the inside of the back legs. Keep on squatting Syd, much easier and with his slight hairdo on the end, no front leg hitting and mumma is happy for that too. Nice he takes notice of sis and mum and squats all neatly now without hitting legs.

Show sheepies less pee pee staining problems when they squat to fire and leaving the tip of the fur on the end helps it not flying around like a crazy hose in all directions

Gotta luv those wild hoses     They can be controlled the outlet pressure and where it squirts!!!! 8)
thank you for all the help on here, I love the pic of the'sock baby"! :D I think I may go try to find water repellent socks, I tried to make some but I don't sew and it was a disaster!
He obviously has a strong flow, Archie used to, but then he decided cocking his leg to almost falling over point much more fun!

Try toilet training near a corner of a wall or fence or post.

When he needs a pee encourage him over to a wall if you can, also it may help if he witnesses other dogs doing it this way.
charlie's mom,
ask a nurse if you know any. had surgery last week, sent me home with tight fitting pr for circulation that would work well. long with opening at the toes too. 8)
Dawn has been very lucky to not have had this as an issue. We have had 3 male OES and have experienced it with all of them. It gets better with a little age; Dexter is a little over 2 and it happens rarely if ever with him. Winston is 13 months and it happens often with him, especially since he was shelled and they cut all the hair off his penis, a wick is mandatory! It doesn't matter if he cocks a leg or stretches, he can hit a leg, both if he stretches. He has the stream of a young boy, which is what he is, he can pee well beyond his front legs if he misses them. Taking him out often helps, the more he needs to pee the stronger the stream, the more likelihood of hitting a leg. We keep no rinse shampoo and a towel at the back door.
Oh Langley was bad for this and it stunk so bad until he was neutered. He hasn't done it for years thank goodness. I make sure he has a tassel (That is what I call it Lisa :)) makes a huge difference.
 It's great to hear we are noy alone on this!! what kind of shampoo are you using(dry) at the door? I'm afraid of drying the poor guys skin out as much as we keep washing. he is shaved down now, when we got him he was so matted we did not have a choice, we are wanting a big beautiful full coat but with more hair is this meaning more yellow! our old boy we had years ago we kept naked underneath while he was a young pup, but we never had this problem with him. this poor sweet baby I don't think even notices he's doing it, he is great about letting us wash him, it has become a 'just something we do when we come in thing"!
This thread is really making me not want to get a male OES!!!

Seriously - it's not an issue normally. I don't know why some people are have this problem - anatomy, trimming hairs or what??? Other than the ones mentioning it here, I never have heard of this being a problem with people I know in the OES dog world's males either. :?

And female dogs have their own issues - when squatting to pee, if they pee and it doesn't soak in the ground, it can get in their hock hairs or rear coat. :lmt:

I still would put up with the stinky puppy (it doesn't last long), to have a male again. This is my first male dog and I will always have a male from now on.
boy Dawn I guess you got really lucky! it sounds to me like it is a pretty common thing, the trainer I spoke with said she has also heard of this pretty often.

This is my only hesitation. It was BAD. Just thinking about that heavy odor... I literally prayed at every pee break.. I agree that taking out VERY OFTEN helped a little (little stream) ...as did trimming the wee wee hair.

I'm looking to get another male though... I think.

:D :D :D You're a wonderful doggy mom.

Kobuck would pee on the back of his front legs and on even on his chest... at times he would shoot between his front legs to about 6" in front of himself. http://oesusa.com/Kobuck6.jpg and http://oesusa.com/Kobuck8.jpg He was a messy pee-er.

So far Bucky's been the only boy I've had that's weed on himself. Early on I made him some potty-pants using a real lightweight, water repellant fabric that's called Rip Stop Nylon. Here's a drawing with rough/basic instructions. http://oesusa.com/PottyPantsInfo.jpg You can modify the bottom so it flares out away from the back of the foot to prevent dripping on the feet. They need to be washed so you'd need a couple of sets. I got so I'd rinse them off and put them in the sun to dry and wash them properly at the end of the day. The poke-a-dot ones were made from a heavier... oil-cloth material I think?... that cleaned easier but they were heavy. Didn't like them so much.

He hasn't needed them for a long time now. He'll will still hit the bottom of his right front foot at times when he pees. It's usually when his front leg hair starts getting real long. I have to trim the backs of his front legs shorter and that usually fixes the problem. Peeing more often decreases the strength of the flow, he also peed on himself much less after his neuter. I do keep the hair on the wee-makers clipped short on my boys. 8) The dog should also keep his head UP rather than sniff the ground when peeing! He managed to pee on his beard a few times...
My daughters Dougal wees on his front leg when he hasn't had a wee for a fair while and is a bit "desparte" to go-other time he is ok. She uses baby bottom wipes.x
Okay I am sure this has already been mentioned but I am too lazy to read all the past posts. My two year old does this and this is the solution I have found works for me. I keep the hair on the top of the penis a little longer. I shave the rest of the hair around his penis and tummy. When he pees that hair directs the pee down. It really works. When he goes to the groomer, they know not to mess with his pee pee hair. Good luck. He does occasionally hit the back of his leg, but not very often.

YOOU are the blessing!! You crack me up with your actual pic of pee on the leg. I was always amazed by how far his pee could go. He definitely would win a pissing contest among the other males. If only he could drink beer ........he'd be the perfect upright male. :)
