Always looking for a good story about pet sitters

As I'm always looking for good stories about pet sitters and for some reason I have an interest in Old English Sheepdogs, this sotry met both criteria:

That's the kind of job I think we'd love when we retire.
LOL! I used to do it in college. I had the perfect setup for it since I groomed their pets too! I LOOOVED it. I wish I had kept doing it once I had my children. It was a lot of fun, and the money wasn't too bad either! Some of the owners were even kind enough to leave me little Thank You gifts along with my pay. I loved the people I worked for. Luckily, all of my animals were awesome to me since they already knew me. :)
I'd love to know about this too...we use a doggy daycare/boarding kennel combination place if we need to go somewhere without the dogs. Back in May we went out of town for just the day, and hired the teenage girl next door to babysit the dogs, she was given instructions to walk them at least once...Remy needs a longer walk. Left food, treats, collars, poop bags, and trusted her to actually do it. And she did...we are on good terms with this family. Actually they are awesome people.

She needs the money for her trip to Japan as an exchange student program, and when she gets back her step dad promised to get them a beagle puppy (his fav dog). So she could use the practise and responsiblity. Plus my dogs absolutely adore her, she is over often just to visit them. She also is the kids babysitter.

My questions is what is an appropiate amount...she has taken a babysitter course for kids.

We pay $6.00 per hour for the 2 kids...ages 4 & 5.

We gave her $20 for the day with the dogs. She made $50 from us in one weekend.

For me to have overnight with daycare...it cost me $18 for one dog, and I think $27 for 2 sharing a kennel.

What is "normal"?

I didn't have a set fee....whatever they wanted to pay me. Money is one thing I just never discussed with them. I usually made about $80 a weekend - most of them had 2-3 dogs and I stayed at their house for the weekend also with some. When I stopped by and just fed/walked the animals a couple timies a day, I got about $40-50 for that. No one else did it, so I really didn't have any rates to go by. I just let them pay what they felt it was worth. :)
i just quit my dogsitting job. it was part of a daycare, and i would go to other peoples homes, bring their dogs to daycare, then go home with them and stay the night. i made 20 bucks for a weeknight and i believe 30 for a weekend. but i usually got great tips too. and you guys are right.... best job ever!
