I have a problem with Tilly

Hi everybody

I have a problem with Tilly she is becoming very aggressive, barking and growling at people, when I take her in the car with me she barks at all the people that come close to the car and if I try to introduce her to a friend or somebody she growls. She also growls at people when she is walking with me in all kind of settings,if I take you to the store or a show and people try to pet her she just growls and sometimes she even try to bite.

I know that with been deaf the people around her could be seen as a tread, and she could be afraid.

We go to the store as often as I can at least once a week and we take ride in the car all the time, she is with me all the time I work from home so she is with me and she dont have a problem with the people that she knows but if is somebody new she barks and growls.

this worry me because I cant really take her to a public place with out having to watch her like a hawk, am afraid that she is going to bite somebody or worst a kid and then we are in big trouble.

I dont know if her eyes are not really good and besides been deaf she can not see very well, but she can see the treats in my hands hehehe.

I want to take her with me places but if this behavior is not corrected , and I dont know how, my only resource will be put her in a muzzle an her every time we go out or when we have people over, I really dont want to do this because she is a very sweet girl.

Please I really need help with this one !!!

Monica, you can get her eyes checked fairly easily (and inexpensively) - just ask your vet (or do you know any breeders in your area?) who does CERF testing near you. (You don't need a CERF test, but that's the type of vet you need) She can smell the treats, you know ;-)

If she's with you all the time and already an insecure dog, she may only feel safe when you're there. Since you are - perhaps - her last lifeline (in her mind), her displays may be her way of trying to "protect" (guard?) you. My first OES was like this. If that's the case, there are some things you can do to help make her feel more secure/independant, though I've never worked with a deaf dog so not sure what to tell you. Hopefully some of those who have will have some ideas.
