Valentine's Day - your first love?

So who was your very first Old english Sheepdog love? I know we love all our dogs but there was that first one, the one we had that introduced us to the breed and stayed in our hearts so we would always have sheepies...My first love was Rags. He was my best friend and companion. He was also a therapy dog who visited the nursing homes and children's hoispital often. he had his CD title and one leg towards his CDX....He lived to almost 15 and he is gone over ten years now...But I think of him and thank him for being the wonderful dog and friend he was and for introducing me and getting my hooked on the OES Breed! :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:

Lily was made especially for me. I went and visited her mama while she was pregnant. While I was petting her belly I asked her to make me a sheepie girl, with one blue eye, to make her smart and energetic. I got all that and then some.
There was 4 girls out of a litter of 7. Just by looks I wanted a girl that was more white. The breeder said trust me that's not your pup. She chose a little masked girl for me. (total opposite!) When I met them in person I held all the puppies, most squirmed or whined or didn't want anything to do with me. I picked up Lily (she was the most energetic, trouble making puppy) she fell asleep, there was something about lil that was so comfortable, like we knew each other already. The breeder was right.

My step mom has loved and owned OES since I've known her. (17yrs ish) I really didn't think that sheepies were the breed for me til I was owned by one. There will be many, many, many more sheepie loves in my lifetime but Lily is my first. :hearts: :hearts:

4 week old Lily
Beth was our first. We went to buy a puppy and they gave us the mother also. We gave the puppy to my brother-in-law and kept the mother. We had her for 4 years, gave to friends to babysit while we were in Europe and they refused to give her back. She lived to about 14 and visited often.
gigs my first love and best sheepie this was in the 70's ,, i do recall she did eat my new leather couch.... but i remember her as the best
Buford Alexander was mine and it was 1974. :hearts:

Buford's owner had his home destroyed in a tornado that hit in our area that year. Until that time, I'd only read all I could get my hands on about the breed and dreamed of having an Old English. I was allowed to foster Buford until his owner rebuilt his home.

The storm took its toll on Buford and he did have some "issues". Terrified of storms and had a tendency to bite the neighbors and my sisters. And the vet. That's why the vet thought all OES were that way. :headbang:

When Buford's owner's home was rebuilt, he went back home with him and lived out his days. As soon as I graduated from college, we got our first puppy, Winston. The rest is history. Never been without an Old English Sheepdog since. :hearts:
Violet is my first Old English Sheepdog and I love her so much. After raising 4 children/working I had a little time on my hands when we decided to move from Michigan to Florida. We moved here in March and by July I had picked out Violet at the Rescue in St Petersburg.. She was only 9 mts old and there were 7 other oeses there as well. Violet was the youngest. I've never regretted the day I adopted her and brought her home. She is the best. That was almost 10 yrs ago, time has flown past so quickly.

Brian had a sheepdog growing up..Callie...he had always wanted another one.

I grew up with 2 golden retrievers, muffy and chanel (dont say anything about the names, i had nothing to do with it :sidestep: )

I thought that i had wanted another golden but brian talked me into a sheepdog....Panda was my Christmas love...her birthday the same as my beloved grandmothers...

Lola was meant to be as well....only 2 in the litter, both girls, I had wanted the one with the bulleyes...sara, the breeder said...nope you want the other one...(and boy she was right)...Lolas birthday is the same as brians beloved mother..... :hearts:
My mother had our first sheepdog, Elsa, before I was born:

I'm 3 or 4 in that photo; Elsa died when I was 5. But she had a litter, and really I think I grew to love the breed with her pup Mopsey:

I'm on the left, with my cousin in the middle and my sister on the right. I can't believe how bad Mopsey looks- wish I could go back in time and groom her!!!
Ohhhhhh I so love those photos you posted!!!!

You girls were styling with those hats!
My love of OES was as a result of watching the Shaggy DA Disney movie. I never stopped talking about it as a kid and found Shaggy at the SPCA years later and brought her home. It was Mothers Day and I became her mom. That was aprox 25 years ago.

Since then I've been mom to Big Dog, Gilligan, Panda and Merlin and of course mom to other dog breeds as well but those are my OES sweeties. :hearts:
