OES likes to "garden"

My puppy loves to dig in my flower beds! I'm always outside with her, but if I turn my back for two seconds, she is a filthy mess! Anyone else have this issue? I didn't think they were diggers. This is the second OES I've had. The first one was a total diva and hated being dirty. I lovingly call this little girl my Tom dog.

On really hot days I have this issue (we do get some hot days in Canada!). I usually take it as my cue that they have had enough and need to go cool off. The only time I have seen them dig in the snow is when they know that there is a toy buried. Snow digging is so much cleaner than dirt digging, but not as satisfying, I think! Would love to see a picture of her hard work. She is probably trying to help you garden!!
My first oes was a digger. Seriously, she would leave craters all over the yard. I could never break her of the habit so instead I made her a huge sandbox in one corner of the yard and taught her to dig in that. It was quite easy to re direct her urge to dig and it saved the lawn and flower beds.
I've had two that liked to rough up fresh dirt to lie in, even if it wasn't hot.
Our new rescue OES is running around in the backyard all through my raised beds that will have vegetables in them next year. Trying to keep him out is not working since they are covered in snow and he can't tell the difference. When I saw him in the asparagus patch today I worried about him breaking all of them next spring.

He better not learn to dig in them!
Ours was a digger and in the beds and herb area you name it she was there. She has grown out of it I hope
Simon's a digger. He loves to dig in the ground by the patio...spraying dirt all over the patio.
Thanks for the responses! I like the sandbox idea!
I have a pet-strength (not cattle strength) electric fence around my raised beds that go around 2 1/2 sides of our house. 2 strands, one at about 4 inches off the ground, the other at a bit over 12 inches. Keeps dogs out, but even more importantly, keeps our free range chickens out! They scratch and kick mulch out like no body's business!
My 11 week old pup also likes to dig

Pretty funny to see his mouth after getting a drink then dragging it thru the dirt.

Oh, No, grab the towel!!

I just have to say that I LOVE having these forums that produce such great ideas!! :bulb:

Thanks All!!
