slobby joules

Im hoping ive spelt joules right :?

Anyway, bloo gets loads of sticky saliva on his joules I have to wipe it off morning and night. Theres no infection just slobber.

Anyone else got a slobber dog...

Another thing is bloos teeth have some tartar building up on them. I know its a bad thing so ive been giving him dentistix on a morning and I brush his teeth of a night. They aren't as bad but still a little yellow. I dont know why because he ears his biscuits and he has bones etc. Is there anything else that will reduce tartar?

Do you feed him dry kibble or wet food?

I've heard the opinion that dry kibble is better, not because it scrapes the teeth, or not JUST because it scrapes the teeth, but it is better because after they eat they go and drink water right away which helps to wash things out.

("Jowls") :D
I knew id spelt it wrong...

He has dry food and sometimes fresh meat( chicken usually )
He has a treat at bedtime but he only has natural vegetable treats or bones.

But he does go to my nans mon-wed and she fills him with junk. (She leaves empty licked sweet and crisp wrappers around) ive told her not to feed him anything but she doesn't listen! So im having to get vack and exercise him more when I come back from college and cut down on his tea. Its so annoying but there's nothing I can do about it.
Tea? Doesn't tea stain teeth?
Not that kind of tea! :P tea as in his dinner. He has a bowl of biscuits for his tea(dinner)
My Chap was the only slobbering OES I've ever known. And that boy could slobber. I kept his beard short because of it.

All of my others have not had that problem.
Chowder has a weird fold on hers. The vet said it's normal for some sheppies, not werid, but she's our first and we haven't really into the jowls/mouths of another sheepie. What he gave us worked so we didn't really questions him. Anyway when she was younger we used to wipe them with these pads to keep them clean. We still wipe them just not as regularly.

Douxo Chlorhexidine 3% PS Pads
Buster is slobbery....what a surprise  lots of towelling through the day.
Monty had really bad tartar at only one year old. I now give then a raw bison bone or bison rib bone about once a week, it has really cleaned up their teeth.
There could be a downside such as a broken tooth, but the state that Monty's teeth were in at only one year would mean expensive vet cleaning and probably other problems so we will risk a broken tooth. Besides they love the bones, keeps them happy for hours.
It has to be raw bones NOT cooked as they splinter and need to be big for an OES.
hi Sam, wondered what you were on about slobby joules, you are funny! Summer is a lady and only salivates when someone is eating something she wants, and there is a pool of slobber on the floor then! Archie's slave knows about slobber, perhaps he will spot this thread for you! :tea: (my old yorkies used to love a saucer of tea or coffee!)
