Historic Blizzard On

Well, here we go again...Not sure how Long Island will fare but Boston, watch out and prepare now. Lots and lots of snow coming your way. Down here we don't care about snow. But when Jim Cantore calls for astronomical tides, its a problem...Stay safe...and get ready...Ron, thinking of you!

OMG those bell bottom pants! They were in fashion the last time we had a blizzard of the magnitude that is now forecast... 1978!
Oh no! Diane you have been through so much! Maybe LI will only get a few inches. I remember how wrong the snow predictions were when I lived there. Stay warm and safe all!
Stay safe everyone!!! Hopefully we can stay in contact.
Have friend who was suppose to be in Boston for conference 7-9. Wonder if he even went? Since he has to be home Sunday (he's a priest), I wouldn't be surprised if he bailed.
Well, now Long Island is under the blizzard warning. Boston is way in the blizzard warning. Ron, stay safe and warm. We however have more problems...flooding warning has been issued. Local channels have recommended anyone who was effected by flooding with Sandy should move to higher ground. I have a hotel for tomorrow and Sat...watching the tide closely. Don't want to wait until the blizzard and white out conditions begin before getting out...I am getting too old for this crap!

Stay safe everyone....will be back when I can...Ron, stay safe and warm and get your snow blower ready!
We don't have a snow blower, but we do have a standing deal with a neighbor who plows, he's been great. This year this will only be the 2nd time! Probably the 3rd and 4th times, too.

Stay High and Dry!
We're probably just getting a little slop- but I have to tell you-
especially Ron, I have the pre-storm crazies for you. I think
I may just run out and get milk, bread, and eggs just thinking about
how bad it could get for you! We would be bracing for power outages
just because we are sort of rural, and we rarely get a plow out our road.
I sure hope you don't have that problem. I will be watching - hoping
you all are ok.

Stay safe and warm!

Thinking of all of you in the path of this storm! Stay safe!
Praying for you Diane. Hunker down Ron, it's going to be a rough few days.
We're in the same "bubble" as Boston, possibly getting 40 cm. We've already gotten about 20cm and apparently the worst hasn't even hit us yet. I'm loving it! :)
We'll probably get about 8 inches out of the storm. It's too far east to really affect us.

2-3 feet is a tough amount to deal with if your municipality doesn't have the equipment, expertise, and mentality to deal with it.
:wag: Stay safe! And please, make some nice snowdogs when its over.
Dad's power in a fairly large suburban city of Quincy has gone out. He's 87 (and 1/2 :D) and the 4th floor condo is 100% electric. I hear there's a shelter on the other side of the city's Center, less than a mile away I'd guess.

I had told him, insisted that he wasn't prepared for an extended power outage and they might not be able to help him for a few days, but he pooh-poohed me saying things like "The power didn't go out in '78" (we lived in a different town then.. lol) and he lives on a fairly main road (well, a block from the main road). I told him I wouldn't be able to come and get him if there was a problem and I didn't (and still don't) know if he will be reachable any time soon.

So I hope he climbs under his down comforter for the night and stays warm enough in the dark...
Stay safe friends, and my prayers are with you !!
Stay safe all of you. Ron I hope your Dad's ok. Diane, I love living near the ocean, but don't want to live on one of the islands for the same reasons what you've had to endure for the last few months. I'm happy to hear you were able to get a hotel room. When the hurricanes are predicted here, all the hotel rooms get rented out quickly.
Any updates from the East coast friends? I woke thinking of them this morning, and cannot imagine the magnitude of 2-3 feet of snow.

Mark, glad that you and Brick will be spared from the brunt of it. I know that your Dad has you worried, Ron. Hard to persuade parents sometimes. Hope that your family is safe and warm.

Hugs and prayers for all.
Just took the dogs out. So windy! Some parts of the yard you can see the grass, some two feet of snow.
Just woke up, and clicked on the news. Looks really bad.
Hope everyone is ok.
Will be thinking of all of you.
Stay safe.

Actually, I wished that we had gotten it. We like snow here and we're dissapointed when we don't get the big snow storms.
I'm not sure any other area in the lower 48 is better equipped to handle snow better than we are.
We look at storms like this and say "bring it on!!"

We wear our snow handling capabilities like a badge of honor around here.

To those in the storm area not used to these kinds of dumpings, good luck. And we hope you get dug out quickly.
We got 20" of snow where I am in lower Westchester County. 20" of heavy wet snow. Of course, the sheer pin on the tractor snow blower broke and the hardware store was not open yet. My husband and I used the small snow blower and a shovel to clear everything, including 200" of sidewalk. I have to admit though, it was very nice to be outside. Dudley and Oscar are loving it.

All of you that got slammed, don't forget your roofs.
That was a LOT of heavy, wet snow.
It may be worth it to hire someone to get the snow off your roof.
DO NOT attempt yourself unless you're absolutely sure of the right & safe way to do it. We read too many stories around my hometown about homeowners who attempt to clear their roofs, fall off, and are either permanently injured or even killed.
That's a good point. People ought to have a look at their own roofs.

Most homes have peaked roofs around here and most of the snow is blown off in a blizzard. My neighbor across the street has no snow on his roof at all; my roof has some areas with snow piled up against one side of the dormers.

The problem will come for commercial flat roofs, especially since there's a forecast for rain over the next week.
Spacegirl great pics and I would loved to moved there. Do you want to move to the UK & swap. I have a 5 bed house
Another thing to check:

If you have a high efficiency furnace, make sure the air inlet and vent pipes are clear of snow & ice.
