Craigslist OES puppy and 4 yr old

http://stlouis.craigslist.org/pet/3558110210.html King is a 4 year old "outside" OES

http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/pet/3565099807.html Mesquite Female puppy born 11/15/12 ($800)

The danger for me of searching for OES photos and information is to come across posts like these. I don't live anywhere these sweeties so thought I would share here. I didn't think CL allowed "selling."

I didn't think OES were an outdoor breed. Not that I am interested in getting another dog but for discussions sake could you train an 'outside dog' to live happily indoors?
I have done it many times and for the most part they love being indoors Sometimes potty training takes a little longer but so worth it!!

Ditto! Our experience here, too.

As far as selling animals on CL, technically it's not considered selling but "rehoming". Okay, not a lot of difference in most cases but buyers and sellers just have to be very cautious. Rescues often get involved but often cannot or will not pay the "rehoming fee". You can't really blame someone for wanting to recoup what they have invested in vet bills, spay/neuter fees, etc. It doesn't make the fact they are getting rid of an unwanted pet. IMO, if someone doesn't want the pet for whatever reason, it's best that they do find another home.

They aren't. I fostered Lily's brother and his former owners made him an outside dog. When he wasn't outside they stuck him in a crate. He flourished being a part of our family and preferred being inside with us and his sister. Potty training wasn't an issue, he got it in 2 days.

My hound was an outside dog when I got him. It took 5 months to potty train him. (He isn't the smartest boy) He doesn't like spending an extended amount of time outside and would rather be with us or napping on the couch.

You don't need to train them to live happily indoors. Once the dogs realize the benefits (snuggles, pets, love, treats, warmth, being a part of a family) they want to be indoors.
The CL listing is a scam. Send your deposit and the post disappears. What's worse, they use the same photo each time. No matter what, we still have to check.

Do you mean the puppy post? sigh. I usually stay away from CL but until today I have been trying to see photos of as many OES in different situations as possible and in my last search those popped up. Thanks!!
Devra is right. Sounds like a breeder looking to get rid of the last pup of the litter, or possibly selling one at a time under the guise of being a rescue. If they are asking a deposit, they should be reported to Craiglist and the ad flagged for removal.

Be very suspicious of any ad but especially one advertising a puppy. Puppies don't become available very often in rescue unless there are underlying problems. Craigslist is often an outlet for breeders posing as individuals seeking a home for a rescue. I didn't even look at the listings mentioned above when I posted earlier, just was speaking in general terms of CL ads with pets. The ads are often legit and the reasons for rehoming a dog of any age can be justified whether some people here want to believe this or not. Be extra careful when replying to an ad of any kind for anything.
The CL ad has been up since Christmas.

If I understood Devra right, it's not a breeder (necessarily - anyone can snag a picture) as there is no puppy - it's a flat out scam. I've heard about the scam before, just never using an OES puppy. A good reminder to be careful.

Kristine
Just to clarify: I am not interested in getting a puppy from anyone on CL. I am going to do a thorough search for a reputable breeder. I just thought if someone could help out King - the four year old who is outside all the time- that would be great. And then I saw the puppy ad and thought I'd post that too. Since I am nowhere near either of them, I just wanted to get the word out, especially about King. thanks!
Very scary and sad.

It is always good to let the community know about Sheepies in need! Kristine is correct, the ad on Dallas CL is one that comes and goes with the same photo. Happens in many areas. The more you are on the site, you will read about all sorts of unscrupulous people that will use a dog to scam.
Have any of the rescues followed up on King?
