Transport - Columbus, OH to Detroit

Hi :D

I have the chance to adopt a cute 18 month male OES from Columbus Ohio :D . Deb the owner has a new job that takes her on the road quite often so for that reason she has decided to let me adopt Bentley where I already have Dallas (my 9 year old OES) waiting for him. I know this breaks Deb's heart :( to let him go but I can see that she has a great big heart by deciding what's best for him.

I'm trying to arrange transportation for him from Columbus to Detroit (for this weekend) and if possible also, to have him brought across the border as his final destination is Ottawa, Ontario. I'm about 500 miles from Windsor so any help in this road trip would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you :D .

Gosh, Uncle Pete, if I lived anywhere near there, I'd be glad to help. I'm tickled pink, though, to hear you're getting to adopt Bentley! That's wonderful news!!

Good luck arranging transportation! I can't wait to see pictures!
Well, I don't think that it will be happening this weekend :( . Hopefully next weekend :D . If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated. Jill and Jil, I'll pm you.

Thank you and have a great weekend :D

Uncle Pete :D
Hi Uncle Pete,

I really hope it works out for you. I'd help you in a mega second but unfortunately am on the other side of the country. Please keep us informed and I'm crossing my fingers, legs and eyes even!!!!

Still no car, otherwise I'd love to help.... :(
Why not just fly him?
With the hassle I had with the airlines for 8 days awhile ago trying to get Winston flown out of Philly, I swore I would never ever deal with the airlines again    . It would take about half an hour to write down all the misinformation they were giving me and the stress almost made me give up trying to adopt.

Luckily this can be done by car so I hope I can work this out in the next few weeks :D .

Uncle Pete :D
A big thank you to those who offered to help and to those who said they would if they could :D .

Even after losing Belle yesterday, Jil still wanted to bring Bentley on this side of the border :D . I asked her to postpone this for a while but being the trooper that she is, she insisted that we meet on Saturday about 25 miles from Windsor and do the handoff. After 5 months, Dallas will finally have a little buddy (I hope they don't start smooching in the back on the trip back here  ).

We'll post some pics later. So A great big big thank you again to Jil especially in the state that she's in (I was exactly there 5 months ago) and have a great weekend :D .

Uncle Pete :D
I'm going to the doctor tonight Uncle Pete. I might be part of this yet!

Elissa
Geez, guys, you're making me blush!

I'm just trying to stay out of the house . . .

:? :D
Agreed, Jil rocks! She's even covering my leg of the trip now since I'm still too sick to drive. You're the best, Jil! (If I say that out loud it even makes me feel good about myself ;))

Jill
Go Jil, Go Jil, Go Jil!
Thank you, thank you (I'm taking a bow and Kayli's looking at me like I'm crazy)!!

That was fun! I could do this for a living! Did you know there is a Belle River off the 401 in Windsor? I drove by it and smiled.

I met Pete at 1:30-ish and the whole trip went great. I send yet another hug out to Deb, who made this totally unselfish decision on Bentley's behalf.

Now, he's probably a typical sheepie puppy, but let me just say - Wow! What a bundle of energy! And he's HUGE!! (I'll post pictures, don't worry!)

Bentley totally charmed the Canadian customs guy by sitting in the passenger seat and grinning from ear to ear. He's so big that the top of his head almost hit the ceiling. The guy started asking the routine questions and then he starts to smile after the first one. I look over and Bentley is sticking his head out the window, checking out the people in the other cars. I start laughing and am trying to answer the questions and the customs guy starts laughing and finally he just waved me on. Then I almost hit another customs person who was crossing between the booths - why the heck do they do that?

Pete's Dallas is a sweetie who reminded me a bit of Belle - no, that was not a problem. I wonder how long it will be before she's romping with Bentley, whose main goal in life seems to be to play 24 hours of every day.

It was a pleasure meeting Pete (a very nice guy, but then we knew that) and I can tell that Bentley's going to have a great home!

What a fun day this was. Bentley had me laughing for the first time in almost a week and it felt good.

Kudos to Deb for putting Bentley's needs before her own and Pete, well I hope he's got strong cheek muscles, 'cause I have the feeling that Bentley is going to keep him laughing for a long time to come.

Oh - and Dallas - don't forget to put that youngster in his place if he deserves it!
What a great happy ending! Pete has a playmate for Dallas, and I think Bentley looks like an adorable big boy who is a lot of fun and love. How wonderful of you Jil to make the trip! :clappurple:

Good morning :D .

Thank you all very much for all the postings and the well wishes and great comments, they are all very much appreciated.

It was a long trip and well worth it. When Jil showed up with him I thought, he is sooooooo tallllllllllll 8O , sorry Jill but I think I'm going to have to name him Clyde too because he's as big as a Clydesdale horse. When I saw his colour and shape, I tought this is probably one of the most beautiful sheepie that I have ever seen. His coat is so soft, he barely has any black on him, he's so white and he has so many different shades of grey. Dallas is a normal size sheepie and weighs about 75 pounds, so you can see that he is huge.

He's a real guy too. Everytime a transport truck and/or a motorcycle would go by (even in the far away lanes going the other way in a 4 or 6 lane highway) he would look up and stare at it until they passed (and he did this even at night).

Dallas is a bit nervous with him around as he barks at her but hopefully this will pass with time and they'll become good buddies.

Bentley is used to sleeping in a crate, so when we got home, I have not crate for him so I sort let him pick his own spot. Well guess what, he had to pick my bed. I took him off the bed three times and he kept jumping back on. Well since it was after midnight and I was petty tired, I gave in and let him stay on the bed but pushed him a bit so that I could at least sleep in my own bed.

Within 5 minutes, he rolled over and then fell off the bed. I turned the light on and he had this look of "what the heck just happened - this never happened in my crate". After I stopped laughing I showed where I had placed a foam mattress from a baby crib at the foot of my bed and he was fine after that.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Deb for letting me adopt Bentley, Jil for her great help with the transportation (epecially in her situation and it was nice to meet her too - very nice person and I hope that she can find another sheepie real soon), so a big thank you, thank you, thank you for making this possible and I'm sure that Dallas thanks you all. A big thank you also to Jill for being willing to help out although one's health comes first.

I'll send Jil a few picks that I took at the handoff and a few more when we got home and maybe put them in the pics section. Deb gave me his box of toys and he went in, he actually picked up his soccer with his mouth and took it outside and wanted me to go out and play soccer with him, wow, what a big mouth!!!

Now I have to let Bentley take me for a walk, introduce him to his new surroundings and all the kids in the neighbourhood.

More to come later and pictures.

Uncle Pete :D
Uncle Pete,
That is funny what you said about changing his name to Clyde. Pepsi's name was Clyde before I rescued him. The Local OES Rescue woman said I should definitely change it because Clyde reminded her of a Clydesdale and he was way too small for the name. She suggested Doofus. But my son named him Pepsi.
So happy to hear your trip went well and Bentley is now at his furever home.
Congrats Again!
Elissa
Re Bentley/Clyde's size -- unbelievable. Let us know when you find out how much he weighs. Chumleigh is 90 pounds of enthusiasm. Looking forward to more pictures. . .
Nope, sorry Uncle Pete, only room for one Clyde. It'll just be too confusing for me!

Jill
Yipeeee!!! Glad all went well :D
:D Congratulations Uncle Pete! Well done Jill! What a handsome boy he is! Lynda
Aww- thanks for sharing the pics and video Jil! It brought a great big smile to my face! Good luck Uncle Pete- looks like you've got your hands full now!

Karen :)
