Sheepdog in MO

I just sent an email off on this precious lil girl. She's about 4 hours from us.

Oh, she's just so precious! Good luck and keep us posted!
Chris
Good luck!!!
What a punkin! Good luck and keep us posted.
Thanks! They think she's actually only 6 weeks old, so it would be a few weeks until she was ready to live in her forever home. I've exchanged a few emails with them, and even received some new pictures (although I'm not sure how to post them on here). She's just too precious!

I'll hopefully be able to make the 4 hour drive to see her within the next week or two. :)
Koopa,

I live is St. Louis. If I can help in any way send me an email. I'm familiar with the Morse Mill area.

George.
Thanks, George! How very nice of you. We're in the KC area, and I just might have a few questions for you. :)

Also, here's some of the new pictures she sent me. I wanted to ask the resident experts here if she looks mixed to you. I asked, and they said she's a purebred rescue, but she still looks mixed to me, or I could just be seeing things. ;)
From first impressions: She looks like a purebreed and after reading the info on their posting, it seems like they may even have proper paperwork on her. I think the reason that she looks like a mix is because she appears a bit dirty; like she had peed and rolled in it? (Sorry but that's kind of what she resembles. )

Maybe after a good bath and a bit of fluffing she'll lose that rather shaggy appearence.
She doesn't even look like an oes to me, to me she looks like a maltese/ havanese cross or something... but she has ringworm by the look of her, possibly mange too, and who knows what else. She looks like a very very sick little puppy. I hope they are able to heal her quickly.
She's been adopted.

I have to say, the entire thing was a bit strange. I went from being the only person to have responded on her, exchanging a minimum of 8-10 emails asking quite a few questions (and still being the only one interested), to now her being adopted. I know these lil critters can move fast, but I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed as I didn't feel like I was getting the whole story on her, and the answers to my questions were pretty evasive as I started wanting more specific answers.

All in all, I hope she has found a good loving home and all of her health problems are addressed properly.

And we'll of course keep looking. :)
Can't think of it off of the rop of my head, but I know there is a "rescue" in that area that only deals with broker rejects.

If that is who that rescue is, I'd definantly want a lot of health info on the dog (or any one that comes from them) because some rejects aren't just because they don't meet the looks wanted in a breed.

I'm in Union, Mo 63084, btw.

;)
Flawdogs is whom I was referring to. I just had a lady call me last night about two IGs I'm fostering for the St Louis IG rescue - she said when she had called about the IGs they have listed many red flags went up on their end - about the org. itself.

Keep in mind, it does not take much at all to be recognized as a "rescue" by petfinder - you just have to have your vet fax or send info stating you rescue animals.

Any breeder can easily slip in by saying they do breed rescue also along with breeding. You'd be suprised at how many breeders list animals on petfinder.

To me, its always a red flag when a rescue ONLY has purebreeds and there is always an incredable variety - or a multitude of the same breeds - or only small breeds in their care. Sure, an occasional big breed may come in, but there is a lot to look into when adopting from anyone calling themselves a rescue.
Flawdogs does not do any breeding. The first thing they do when they rescue dogs is get them fixed. If they (Flawdogs) have puppies, it's because they were rejected by puppy millers. And, before they are adopted, the puppies are fixed.

I've adopted several dogs from them (former mill dogs and former pets) and they are a rescue in every sense of the word. The dogs they get from puppy mills are ones that would be killed otherwise. Some of them are healthy and just unsocialized, others are in bad shape and unsocialized. Their goal is to get them to the point where they can be pets.

I'm writing in their defense because I think they get unfairly lumped in with puppy mills because they rescue dogs from the mills. It's unfortunate because, in doing research, some people will come across this forum and get the wrong idea. While you have to be careful about where you get your dog from -- and I was when I got mine -- I think that you can get great dogs from Flawdogs, if you understand that the mill dogs are a lot of work (as far as socialization and perhaps health issues go). They also rescue former pets; we have 3 and they are all fantastic dogs. While my mini poodle (former pet) was easily trained to do various tricks, I was ten times more happy when my toy poodle (mill dog) jumped up on the couch for the first time. Small victories!
although i am very happy with my dog from flawdogs, i was upset to find out that my boy was not 1yrs old. My vet said he is closer to 7yrs. If i had known he was that old i probably wouldnt have adopted him cause i was looking for a young dog. But i love my boy, but his age explains some of his conditions.
