worried about clippers

I've decided to have a bash at clipping the terrible two myself, I bought a set of Oster golden clippers along with a few blades that should leave about an inch of coat, but i'm real nervous of using them. the instrustions dont help that much so i've chickened out so far. Can anyone tell me how to go about this job. My girls like to be groomed and we have no problems on the table, Its just me being a kiff.

Heather...Its really not that hard. If I can do it, anyone can!! I have Panda stand up. I do her back and sides first, then I do the ends (her butt and head). I do her legs last because she hates to have them touched...I use a longer guard on the legs...1/4 inch on the body and 1/2 inch on the legs. Lastly, I use a pair of scissors to trim her belly, shape her feet and ears. The MOST imortant thing to remember is that their hair grows back :D !!!! The second most important thing to remember is that they won't hate you IF you give them a bad hair-cut.....The more you do it, the better you will get... It will truley save you a lot of money to do it yourself, in the long run.......Good Luck!!

Just have lots of patience with your puppy. It's pretty much just going with the hair (not against - gets way shorter). If you or your girls get frustrated, just take a break and try again later. It's really not hard to do unless you're wanting a fancy clip. :)
Did you get Cool Lube to cool the blades? The blades get so hot they are uncomfortable for the dog......hence more wiggling. Cool Lube is either a spray or there are "dunks."

Ditto, just do it. It may take a day or two for each dog. They don't care what they look like. They will still love you.
Thanks you guys, I am going to tackle it this weekend. Yes I did get the stuff for cooling the blades.Keepyour fingers crossed for me please. I'll let you know the results.
Heather.
Heather,
Best of luck with the haircuts!!!! :D
Well it took a while , but i'm quite pleased with the results. They are a lot more frisky now, AND they can be seen out in public without feeling embarassed. I hope I get better at it with time.
Bye for now.
Yes, it takes awhile, especially in the beginning. Once you and the kids learn how, it goes better.   No, it will never got better with Simone. Newbie Jack will be interesting. He loves to be brushed, so hoping same for clipping.

I'm sure you did well, congratulations.
Congrats Heather!!! I bet they look great! :D
Congratulations!! I had the same idea to try to do it myself. I figured it will save lots of money in the long run. Haven't taken a stab at it yet, but I think I'll need to do some trimming soon. His hair really starting to grow in. Definately getting that "muppet" look about him where the hair is sticking out in every direction from his face!!
We use clippers on Watson ourselves. My husband is pretty maticulous and just cuts a little at a time to get the desired look. On our first OES, I used tin snips and cut myself. First dog was wonderful about laying still for cutting w/these.
