we rescued an OES Mix

hi all...I need to vent and I know this is the best place. As you know I have 2 OES dogs. Well I was always wanting to adopt one that needed to be rescued. I got an email alert that there was an OES Mix Breed that was going to be put to sleep and was severly neglecated. I am so proud of my husband who drove us all the 7 hour drive yesterday. She ( the dog)is a real trooper but you could see alot of depression and neglact. Well we paid the fee to release her from her prison and took her home. She looked awful. Her entire body was one mat. You couldn't see her skin at all. The smell was awful. We rode home with our heads out the windows. At 8:00 last night we started to clip her down. It literally came off in huge sections like if you shave a sheep. Massive ticks and tick bites started to appear. A few ticks are stuck on her now but they are dead. They had so much blood they exploded. Her skin was severaly hot spotted. Her feet....omg her feet. First off her dew claws were so long they are coiled like a snake. Once the hair was removed from the back feet we saw the stool....and maggots. It was horrible. We were gagging. Anyway to make a long story short, she is shaved down and bathed. I can't bring her into my house until the vet treats her. Don't worry she has a nice bed in the garage complete with a fan! :? So later this afternoon we will make that visit and I will be hit with the bill. I will reply to this in a couple days and tell you more. What the doctor said and did and whats to be expected. I just wish I knew what she was mixed with. She is like a sheepdog shoulders to butt....she is gray and white...her eyes and ears are oes but her nose is narrower and she is shorter and of course has a tail. I named her Mattie because that was what she was...matted. Wish us luck.

OH MY GOODNESS   How awful!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for rescuing this dog!!!

Please let us know what the vet says!!
Poor baby, I'm so glad you got her... let us know how she does :)
Yep, that's often the way they come from the shelter. It is truly horrible. Thank you so much for taking her into your lives. :D

The vet bill will be a shocker: vaxs, worming, and perhaps antibiotics, blood tests.....all what rescue goes thru with each new baby. That's why fund raisers are so important. The rescue fee often doesn't cover the expenses.

She may be a full sheepie, send pictures when you can. Shelters are horrible at IDing sheepdogs.

Poor girl :( , hope she perks up real soon. A big thank you to you guys for doing this. Glad to hear that an angel like you was there to rescue her :clappurple: . I'm sure positive things are to come out of all this and please let us know how she's doing. Pics would be nice too :D

Uncle Pete :D
Another angel in our midst. :)

Mattie gets a kiss on the nose from me and you get a big hug!

What a sweetheart for taking on such a challenge. Hope things go well at the vet.
I feel your pain. We just went through the same thing with Buddy, the sheepie mix that we drove down to Ohio to save from being PTS. He's painfully thin, tick bites, wounds where a collar grew into his neck and, as I found out after I committed to save him, heartworm positive. It broke my heart to see such a sweet dog suffering like that. I'll tell you what though, I'm not sorry for a second. He's the sweetest most lovable dog ever and my boyfriend's mom (who I gave him to) says he's the most well-behaved dog she could ask for (except for that whole walking on a leash thing!). What's a few hundred dollars in comparison to saving his life and giving him a great home?
Wow... driving 7 hours to get a dog is no small thing. She's very lucky to have landed on such a nice family. :clappurple:

Thanks for rescuing!!!

P.S.... Send pictures as soon as you can!
Please tell us as soon as you can what the vet says. I hope she is okay despite what is already evident, somethings are unimaginable and it's absolutely disspicable of people to neglect animals this way.

Thank you for taking her in, I wish you all the best and hope it all works out.
What angels you and your family are! Thank you so much for rescuing this poor baby from such awful conditions. Looking forward to hearing more about Mattie and seeing pictures!
Chris
Thank God for you guys!! Matiie (Very nice name P.S.!) is so very lucky to have you come into her life!
After the initial vet bill shock, which I hope they take it easy on you with 2 OES at home already and this being a long distance rescue  , you'll wonder what you ever did before she came along.

Thank you so much for doing this!
Hi,

Hurray to you and your husband for making the extra effort to save Mattie!! Yes to definately are angels and I'm going to look forward to hearing abut her tranformation. Heartbreaking story but love happy endings. Keep us posted as to how it's going and lots of belly rubs to your furballs.

Well Mattie went to the vet today. She is alot older than the humane society said. Her heart and lungs sound good. They think she might be 9 or 10. The vet said she might be an OES and poodle or OES and Schnoodle mix...I dunno what she is but she has a home now. The vet was very upset at her condition. We got her all shaved and bathed, her nails clipped and ears washed. She had a rabies shot and frontline. They took sample of some sores she had and they are binine. She does have extreme hot spots which I am putting a spray on. She tested negative for heartworms and is being treated for poopie worms just in case. She slept on my bedroom floor last night and seems to be a good girl. She does grunt alot. The vet said we should put her under and clean her teeth but I cannot afford to do that this month. I have already thrown down over 300 bucks so I got her some dental bones until she has her procedure. She likes to follow me around the house right along with Barkley and Bella so its basically like a parade when I walk through the house! I will put pics up in a bit. She is sad looking right now. Thanks for the support.
She may be "sad looking" but she knows she's found a savior in you, the way she follows you around. If she's as old as the vet thinks, she has endured MORE than her share of hardships. Oh, the poor baby! I just don' t understand how people can be so cruel to defenseless animals, and it infuriates me!

Thanks again for rescuing this little girl. At least now she can live out the rest of her life in love and protection.

Chris
You truly are rescue angels! Sounds like Mattie found a GREAT Furever home!
Hugs,
You have done a wonderful gesture rescuing this old girl! It's a very emotional experience, but so worth it.
We rescued Otis one year ago, he's now 9 years old. He has arthritis in his hips, was run over as a puppy, his nose is tore up and is missing half of one ear. He has had a rough life, but is living the life of luxury now! He shares his retirement home with two much younger OES. His day consists of following mom around everywhere, he seems to be content with that. 8)

Way to go with the rescue!!!! :D
What a horrible story :( Bless you for being so caring :D
:clappurple:
Good luck with your new family member. How lucky for Mattie to "find" you.
