Christmas Carols

Do you have a favorite christmas carol? How about christmas/holiday show? I love Rudolph and still watch it!

I was hoping someone would start this topic!

I like almost every Christmas carol, but my 2 top are O Holy Night and Hark the Herald Angels Sing. Silent Night makes me cry every time I hear it.

My favorite non-religious song is Have a Holly Jolly Christmas (Burl Ives version, the original) followed closely by Feliz Navidad (again, original version only). Christmas, Baby Please Come Home by Ronnie Spector gives me chills and I play that at top volume.

A Charlie Brown Christmas wins top honors for tv shows. Rudolph is number 2. Scrooge (starring Alastair Sim) is the best Christmas movie. Second place is A Christmas Story. I truly love White Christmas but have seen it so many times that I can't watch it.

And of course, The Nutcracker ballet goes without saying. It wouldn't be Christmas without The Nutcracker.
I do love oldies, but find I always go back to the same movies every year .... Home Alone and the Santa Clause series... love them ...and of course the kids do too. That and Jingle all the way with Arnold Schwarzenegger (it has a super hero so what tops that?!?!).

This year I'm ADDICTED to the 25 days of Christmas movies (ABC FAM channel???). They have those Lifetime'ish movies but all fairly new (ones with mario lopez, Tori Spelling, bla bla bla). I'm bored but still... I think they're pretty good. The kids and I watch one or two every week before school (in short increments which is why it takes all week).

Music: I love Santa Baby, Jingle Bell Rock, and the kids love singing Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town (he knows when you are sleeping, he knows when you're awake...) and Rudolf.
I am so rubbish at singing so I don't bother but on the other hand Lori has a great voice and sings away but the film the snowman is good but not too sure if you have seen it in the states or canada
   I hate to admit it, but my favorite Christmas movie is NP's Christmas Vacation   So reminds me of Christmas' with my brothers and their families.....which is why we quit making the trip back to Colorado.

Fav. songs :lmt:......probably the more religious songs: O Come O Come Emmanuel, Come All Ye Faithful, Ave Maria, Silent Night, Hark the Herald...., O Little Town of Bethlemhem. Fun songs, no not Grandma Got Runover.........Yeah, I like Burl Ives' Holly Jolly.

One song I don't enjoy because it is so pervasive here: Feliz Navidad.
My absolute favorite is Händel Messiah - Hallelujah Chorus. It is so beautiful!
Also up there are Silent Night - in English and German. Oh Holy Night and Ronnie Spector are favorites too, like Paula. And I have Let It Snow as my ringtone on my phone now....and I bet that surprises no one!
Oh Holy Night, Hark the Harold Angels sing and Silent Night for Religious. I'll be home for Christmas....kinda sad at the end.

I can't think of a fav Christmas movie, but I've been watching alot of the movies on the one channel that is running Christmas movies 24/7 it might be lifetime, but I don't remember.
I'm completely with Dawn...I love the Händel Messiah - Hallelujah Chorus as my all time favorite. Then, Carol of the Bells, Little Drummer Boy, Silent Night, Oh Holy Night. I'm also watching the channel that has the new movies this year, I think it's Hallmark or Lifetime or both. And I love How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
This is the best Christmas song ever!

Hands down for favorite song is O Holy Night. Jolly Ole St Nicholas always brings back memories of my sister practicing for her piano recital. Does anyone remember Ruth Lyon's " Have a Merry, Merry, Merry Christmas"? Love that one....

Movies? Why, Christmas Story of course, followed closely by Christmas Vacation. Just wish I had time to sit and watch them! :)
Many channels are now in the Christmas mode, both Lifetime and Hallmark have been for a couple of weeks. Even TCM had "Christmas" movies on last night, both WWII movies with Christmas mentions, LOL!
Trans Siberian Orchestra :) Carol of the Bells with metallica is awesome lol

My sister Anne's favorite Christmas movie was always How the Grinch Stole Christmas. She wore many books out by reading the story over and over again. I know, to this day, the movie is watched at her house each year.

Today, while I was in getting a bone density test done, they had a skeleton hanging over the "bed" with a Santa Hat and Color lights on him. At first glance I thought he was the Grinch and told the Tech so....she said "what a great idea. I think I have a grinch hat at home. I'll bring it tomorrow and make him the Grinch." lol

Yes! And it was playing at Walmart tonight as I was doing some shopping. I thought that was pretty cool!
Also love, love, love anything Christmas by Manheim Steamroller...saw them in a Christmas concert once...mesmerizing.
I dont have a favourite song, i sing along to all of them! :D

However i do have a favourite christmas movie...RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER OF COURSE!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D
:tree: Speaking of Christmas Carols, one of the things i really miss, since my kids have all grown up and my grandkids are all up north, is going to the Christmas Concerts at the kids' schools. I know many parents hated going, but I loved going.
I remember when we sued to go door to door as neighborhood kids singing Christmas Carols....Today, hate to say it but if a bunch of kids came to my door at night, I wouldn't anwer and would call 911 :(
So after thinking a little more seriously, I gotta say the some of my favorite Christmas tunes are those done by rock musicians. Top of the list is Lennon's Happy Christmas (War is Over). I really dig The Kinks Father Christmas too.

The best compilation of Christmas tunes is a couple CDs that were put out four or five years ago called Merry Axe-mas. It's all instrumental collection of all the best rock guitarists doing their favorite tunes and it ROCKS!!
