I just saw this article as well!
I have 2 of them right here :hearts:
And yet too many people still seem to think the sign of a good breeder is that they never breed...
My fear now.....may be a tad unfounded....should we be leary of people reading these articles and stealing our dogs? I couldn't help but thinking this while I was walking Angus last night.
So glad we have decided to get an OES!

The OES is on the rare breed in the UK too.

It got me thinking should I neuter Bailey or not??????? Usually I would but then if he is registered Kc and is a good candidate for stud????

As for worrying about theft - I used to worry someone would walk away with all my Dogs. I hated leaving them outside a shop. My sister-in-law had her dog stolen from outside a shop it was a sheltie/collie she never saw it again. Now I have all my Dogs chipped and I never leave them alone. Maybe folk will try to take them if they think they are more valuable. I heard that some theives chop ears off if they have ID tatoos inside them. Breeders have tatood insides of thighs instead because of this. It is a worry.

Oes -
It depends on whether you have a contract or not with your breeder.

Discuss it with them.

Where on earth do you live if you are having those concerns - MOVE!
Before you consider breeding your dog, check your contract with the breeder AND have your vet properly check your dog for potential health issues. (eyes and hips are big ones). Also you want to make sure he has a stable temperament. There is more to keeping the breed alive than just numbers :)

We have a non-breeding contract so Leonard will not be making puppies, he WILL however be a good ambassador for the breed because everybody who meets him falls instantly in love and wants to know all about him :) That is his contribution!! He's a major attention getter!

Before breeding heath checks are a Must ours have had> Hips, eyes, and the new important C.P.D all have come back clear :phew:

Our little man was checked by the Vet Friday and he passed with flying colours. The Vet said the breeders were really good because of all the things they already had done. The pup is a great example of the breed and his temperament is really good. That and the parents ( dad got best of breed at Dublin dog show and mum was best all Ireland champ) I don;t think I can get much better bloodlines for breeding stud possibility. The only thing the Vet did say was the he would not do nutering until Bailey was 9 months old at least and that gives me lots of time to think about it.

I am really pleased with the little man. I am getting to be very fond of him. I am however thinking of tying a knot in his winky if he keeps peeing on my floor!

I am deffinately thinking of keeping Bailey intact if his temperament stays good.
