Powerball is at $500 million--how would you spend it?

PowerBall is at $500 million (and change). I don't buy tickets but if I did and I won, I would buy the horse farm in Kentucky that I visited this spring (it's about 500 acres). I would buy the barn my horse is currently at and donate it to the forest preserve (to p!ss off the owner's children). I would give my brothers each a million and tell them to go away. I would give my niece, nephew and great-niece each a few million. I tell the barn owner "buy whatever property you want, it's on me." I would donate millions to elephant rescues and the Salvation Army and whatever other charity that tugs at me. I would give a few million to the University of Illinois (my alma mater) and to the Kentucky Horse Park.

Then I would buy a bag of chips and a baox of Fannie May and eat myself into a stupor.

What would you do?

I need a couple tires for my Blazer.
Can you say mother of all global Sheepie blowout extravaganzas? It would make the paint-stick Dulux ad look like a silly notion!

Money for my parents.

Buy a house with several acres and acquire some more sheepies.

Travel to cool places, bringing friends and family along...If I could tear myself away from my sheepies.

Donate money to places I wanted to. Probably rescues for sheepies.

Hmmmmm I am sensing a theme here :lmt:
I would buy lots of sheepdogs :) and have my own rescue place but they will have to stay with me
What a concept. Very first would be a money manager(?), is that what you call it?

There are alot of places that I want to donate to. Dh would have his own list. Someone who would manage the mail. With that much you will get tons asking for donations and weirdo's coming out of the wall.

I would purchase a large property so I can have as many dogs I want...in a warmer climate! A live in groomer :D Family would get some.

The possibilities are endless. That amount is....outrageous

And yes, we do buy tickets, and I'm in a pool at work.
1. Meet with an attorney and CPA for planning my trusts before claiming the money.
1b. New phone numbers.
2. Gifts to kids, siblings, in-laws, neices and nephews - but they have to work until retirement for the bulk of it (gotta have a reason to get up in the morning).
3. Do a few things to the house and yard at home - scrape ceilings, have inside & outside painted, redo the woodwork, new flooring, redo the yard.
4. Buy a couple of lots next to our lakehouse and add on so there is room for more people to stay (we have a LARGE family - my husband and I are each one of four kids) and insulation from neighbors. Turn the double garage into a livingroom, the single car garage storage and a dog wash room, add three bedrooms and bathrooms, add garages (not sure how many (depends on the lots we get). This goes a trust for my family to use.
5. Set up a trust for several of my favorite rescues - I've even figured out how to monitor them
6. Fund the local pet food pantry and help them expand to the other side of Dallas. People might be able to keep pets if they got free food for a few months - goal is to empty the shelters.
7. Fund Duck Team 6 - they rescue street dogs as fosters are found for them. They pay medical expenses. I would love to pay for obedience training to make it easier to get them permanent homes.
8. Travel - the places in the US we haven't been yet. Carribbean, Canada.
9. Personal trainer to get in shape.

My brother sold a bunch of mineral rights to a major oil and gas company last year. It was the largest deal at that point - the company wrote him two checks totaling 56 million. He had expenses to pay (people who worked for him in putting this together) and taxes, but still cleared a nice amount. He only answers calls from his kids (he's divorced) - we have to text him to get a reply. He gave his secretary 3 million - she was mad it wasn't more. He hears from people who never had time for him before - they all want something. Nobody ever offers to pay for meals - he wouldn't let them, but he would just like them to offer.
My family doesn't ask anything of him but his time. He drove down for Thanksgiving dinner with us, which is what we wanted.

So the money causes some problems, but I could deal with it and not go broke.
So what were the winning numbers? I did buy a ticket but haven't checked the numbers yet. Did they do that already or is it later tonight?

8) Me too.

I'd donate to the AKC Canine Health Foundation and family - not in that order, actually - buy a smallish hobby farm and ...?

Not holding my breath, but it was worth a few good chuckles at work this afternoon :-) The drawing's in less than 30 minutes, though I'll be in bed watching the Daily Show wondering how many sheepdogs can fit on one bed before the human gets smooshed to death and won't be losing any sleep checking the numbers

Dude if Kristine visits I'll spring for the Grange, no prob! :D
Well, you'd better hope one or two of our Arizona, I think it was, and Missouri members won. There were two winners, alas, none in WI, which leaves Pam and I out of the running - trip downunder or in reverse does sound tempting though. Maybe...

Hey, Judy...? :-)

Maybe Darcy in Arizona?
Or maybe one of the many St. Louis people--Val, Judi, Jennifer, Carol. They can have a mega-mother SheepiePalooza!
The town in Missouri is just a little bit north of Kansas City, MO. So nowhere near St. Louis.
