Different T-Giving dinner

Cooked the big bird 10 days ago, freebie from grocery store. So not in mood to cook another. Asked DH what he wanted instead. He said prime rib, I lifted one eyebrow. Then he said leg of lamb, the other eyebrow came up. I countered with Chinese take out or bucket of chicken. Chinese take out won! Only concession to the day, pumpkin pie, but I made him buy one at the bakery. While I love my pie with the rum, I'm....not...cooking...or baking!

Chinese takeout thanksgiving??? Can I come to your thanksgiving? That's my FAVORITE! :D
Sounds like a perfect way to spend the day. Your feet up, you resting and someone else cooking your dinner. Enjoy
Wish my feet will be up.......maybe. Still making the gift tags for the Giving Tree. Maybe later I'll be done? Tomorrow we go open house at beekeeper friends house about 50 miles south...the one with the house built like a bee hive, each room has a capped roof. Fun trip down the river and get a years supply of honey, etc.

What is it with 14 year old boys and cologne??

Sincerely wish I had thought up Dora the Explorer, Hot Wheels, Call to Duty Special Ops 2, etc.

Baby dolls are still in!
It's always a good day when oriental food is involved. Glad you get a break ...even though it's so you can work extra hard on another project!!!! Sounds yummy.

We had a traditional meal which is NOT what we usually have, but it wasn't so bad ( b/c i just had a sandwich and then dessert). :D I think the kids are like me. They hate all that is thanksgiving except for dessert!! We had homemade cinnamon rolls too which I made yesterday and baked this morning. Needless to say, there are a lot of leftovers despite having 8 additional guests.
We don't have turkey thanksgiving day here :( I have to wait until christmas for mine!
Still I get my pup in two days so thats something to be thankful for!

Wish I had Turkey! What do you guys do at Christmas - Have More Turkey?

Oes :wag:
Many people do have another bird, or ham. Goose isn't real popular, hard to come by here. Beef roast, prime rib is another choice. In my locale the "natives" fix pork in several different variations. One is posole which is hominy and pork stew with red chile sauce. Tamales are shredded pork in a corn meal covering and steamed. We try to have leg of lamb.

From now to Christmas the big cookie here is biscochitos.....which are a variation of a Spanish cookie.....whose name escapes me.......starts with an M. Basically a sugar cookie (made with lard instead of butter), flavored with anise and coated with cinnamon and sugar. Took me awhile to develop a taste for them (getting over the lard part).

Lard. The Only thing to use when making a pie crust. I imagine I would be very happy with the biscohitos! :D
We do oriental on Christmas! We have a traditional Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve, but on Christmas day we all go out to our favorite Chinese Buffet. 8)

We had the full meal deal here today - turkey and duck - both stuffed. Mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberries, sweet potato crunch, green bean casserole, 3 kinds of dressing, 2 kinds of rolls, pumpkin cream cheesecake, and pumpkin pie. I need to run laps....OMG :D
I wish we had an Oriental ANYTHING close by. Our favorite "Jerry's House of Hunan" in Marysville closed last year. I would gladly do Chinese at Christmas!!
I deconstructed Thanksgiving and decided to have dinner out. It was hard to find a restaurant that was open. I called our 2 favorite Chinese places but they were closed. We ended up at Longhorn Steakhouse which wasn't bad. I do love beef so I had a petite filet. Chinese is my New Year's Eve tradition.

My favorite part of the turkey is the wing and I saw that Jewel has a 2 pack of wings. So I will make a bag of stuffing (with butter and celery and onions), put the wings on top, bake, and enjoy. I've made the decision that the only turkey dinner I like is my mother's and I don't think she'll come back from the dead to cook for me.
Trust me, after eating the last of the Turkey...sometime in December...we don't have another on Christmas. Its maybe ham and rolls or Lasagna...takeout...my favorite.
packed in freezer boxes with gravy, dressing, potatoes.....instant TV dinner for later. Problem is no cranberries left...at least not here.

Curiously DH insists on cranberries with turkey but once the turkey is gone, he won't touch the cranberries. I end up with them in my morning yogurt.
Well, I'm with you. Pass the Lo Mein please.

TDay and the warm and fuzzies was ruined for me a few years before my mother passed on by a family member who insisted that we change our traditional celebration method, and then by a family spat that lasted about a year which began and culminated on the following TDays, and I haven't gotten over it yet. It's been about a dozen years since the change happened and 8 since the argument ended.

The gathering was nice enough, but the richness is gone for me.

I think I need to be able to figure out a way to just let it go already so I can enjoy being with the family more, but I guess that I haven't found a way.
