Dumb idea? Yes? No?

We are always looking for new ideas to give my nieces and nephews $$ for Christmas ( their choice  ) without just handing them a card with cash in it. For one thing, I love to wrap, and it's hard to spruce up a card... Second, it just seems so impersonal. We always get the girls some kind of jewlery too, but the "boys" are harder. I was thinking about getting those coin jars that count--- and filling them with change vs. just giving them bills. Tacky? Dumb? Ok idea?

The "I's" will have it

That's very cool. I know my kids would be there all day putting their money in and out just to hear it count.

Jordan is learning money now in school (6)
Jilly (just turned 3) thinks money is the coolest thing ever. She loses it all the time ( ) but when she finds money (expert money finder in parking lots) ...she hangs on it all day and says "look.. myyyyyy money. myyy money." I have to force her to put it in her drawer.

My point being I think it's great because even the youngest likes money due to the older ones liking money ...and knowing what it's for. So they'll all be excited about it!

I found super hero piggy banks for cheap on ebay and my boys have them on their dresser like they're just the coolest. The kids that come over always comment on them (i listen in on the monitor). I didn't want them to get ceramic ones yet because ...well, I didn't want to deal with a mess on carpet if it broke. ...about every 4 months, they take take out their money to go shopping. They can spend "half" of what they have earned. So they're constantly counting their money and putting it back. ...bragging if one has more.
That's a great idea about the coin counters and the super hero banks. I'll remember those.

We did a scavenger hunt one year for my nephew and granddaughter. They had to find their presents according to successive clues. Their presents were together at the end. The whole family helped. We just talked about that the other day. I miss the little ones :(
Scavenger hunt! I like that idea, with the final location someplace comical, like grandpa's back pocket! Love it!
I agree.. very cute!
Not a dumb idea at all, very creative
Yeah, make them work for it either in a bank or scavenger hunt (that might include chores Christmas Day--if appropriate)
I think its a great idea
Can you put Todd on your list too??
He loves those coin counters!! ;)
 I actually bought one of those for myself a few years ago. I think they are great, fun and educational. I would give them the money separately so they can feed it in themselves.
