Charlie and Molly

Just wanted to update you as to how they are doing. We had a dog trainer in who aided us with feeding time. It was a simple fix. We now put Charlie's food down first as he is the alpha dog. Then, Molly's is put down. No more fighting. The trainer said Charlie was simply letting us know that he is first in the pecking order. We have had a couple of days of feeding them side by side with absolutely no issues. Yeah!

Also, our blind Molly is now PLAYING with Charlie. It is so wonderful to see. She hasn't played in years. She hasn't been able to play fetch anymore and so, to see her having a romp with Charlie is so great. It warms my heart and makes me see we have done a great thing for her. They now sleep cuddled together. What a change.

I know there will still be the occasional issues but am enjoying seeing some harmony.

Thanks for all of your advice. It is nice to have a place to come to vent and get others opinions and experiences.

One other bit of advise that works with my 3 girls is when I'm putting their food down for them to eat or giving them a treat, I always use their name, example: This is Violet's, as I put Violet's food down even if it's right in front of her, then I go to give China her's and I say "this is China's" and at last I say to Asia "this is Asia's". I don't have any problems with them fighting over their food since I started doing that years ago. The same for snacks, China's snack, Violet's snack, Asia's snack...and they wait patiently for their name. I can do it in whatever combination I want, but I did start off with always giving Violet her's first. Now it doesn't matter. I can drop one of the other dogs' snack next to the wrong dog and say "That's China's" and neither Violet or Asia will touch it. It does get better.
Great success!
yea great to hear
Food works like that for us too. Both dogs are trained to sit and stay for their food (we've found this is one of the best ways to teach stay too) so we put both of them in a sit stay, I take Eevee's food across the room and set it down, then walk to Bailey and release Eevee, while Eevee is running to her food I give Bailey hers. As long as Bailey starts eating before Eevee can run over to Bailey's food and claim it, there's no problems. Bailey will give the food up if Eevee gets to it first though.

Glad your dogs are getting along so great! That is wonderful :)
