Puppy license has expired

Dexter has gotten gradually tougher and rougher playing with Winston. No anger or aggression on Dexter's part but won't tolerate as much and isn't as gentle when they play.

If Winston gets angry and snaps at Dex, as little brothers do when they realize they overloaded themselves (we raised 2 sons 4 years apart), Dexter puts him back in his place. Winston is the only one that growls or snaps with any anger which Dexter outs an end to.

Dexter used to routinely roll over and lay on his back when they played, not in a submissive posture, just how they tumbled. Now he seems more cautious to not show Winston his belly.

The biggest telling point is humping which is a big show of dominance. Dexter used to just ignore Winston when he tried to hump him (which never lasted long). Now he doesn't put up with it for a second. When Win tries it Dex throws him off then turns around and swarms Winston, pinning him by brute force and gives him a few humps then bites his neck quickly when he gets off as if to say "take that!" then walks away.

Nothing violent or angry, just showing the young guy who the real boss is. They get along great and play pretty evenly. I don't want to give the wrong impression, Dex doesn't beat up on Winston he just periodically puts him in his place. We do watch for anything prolonged or overboard.

Winston accepts his training by Dex, takes his lumps and continues to idolize his big brother.

This is exactly the way things should be going. They are working it out--perfect.
Sounds EXACTLY like mine. I have noticed it in the last month, she's no longer taking his puppy crap, lol. My female was EXTREMELY submissive, now that Ramsey is bigger than her and just turned 9 months, she is no longer letting him get away with everything. It's a nice change and I hope it's a sign for the future with them!
Dogs do a great job. :D

Chewie (6yrs) still takes WAY more from Bond (just turned 12 months) than I think he could...but when he has had enough or Bond so obviously crosses a line - he GETS it, and FAST! ;)
And then it's done, and life goes smoothly on. :D
You can't beat a good dog for raising puppy right.
