Dental Enzyme

It's impossible for me to manage brushing teeth for three dogs and the occasional foster everyday. The cost of having teeth cleaned, $200+ for each dog really hits the budget hard.

I begin reading about the benefits of enzyme water additives that keep plaque from building and will help remove some existing plaque. I asked my dentist how it works and why can't it work for humans. She said, it balances the PH in the mouth which inhibits the growth of bacteria that causes plaque. It doesnt work for people because dogs diets are fairly predictable, humans aren't.

I purchased my first bottle of Biotene Drinking water additive about three months ago. It has done a great job of removing existing plaque and keeping it in check. :excited:

My cat has had dental issue since we adopted him. He's drinking the water too and hasn't had swollen gums in two months.

The one thing I would like to find is an enzyme product that contains only natural ingredients. If I can't, I will stay with the one I'm using. It can't be any worse for the animals than being sedated every other year.

What's the name of the enzyme you are using? And where did you get it?
oh that sounds good. I use something called fragraria for the yorkie but it isnt that good. Apart from a tooth fell out that was obviously loose and held in by plaque.
Where did you get it from?
The product is Biotene and I ordered it from Petco. I read not all brands work the same for every dog. It might depend on the diet. I would order a small bottle as a test.

I put it in the water three times a day, after each meal and around noon.
Out of curiosity...how often do dogs usually need their teeth cleaned?
Monty had really bad brown plaque stained teeth at one year old, the vet told us we needed to brush them. A local pet store sold raw buffalo bones and they recommended the large bones for cleaning teeth. After about 10 bones over a period of 5 months, Montys teeth have really cleaned up. We are really pleased and on top of that he and the newfy love the bones :excited: , keeps them busy for hours.
The pet store recommended the plaque enzyme as well but I keep forgetting to put it in their water plus busters extremely slobbery mouth ruins the water after a few gulps so keep changing the water and we would go through a lot of plaque enzyme liquid.
