I would start by researching some reputable breeders. I waited for over 6 months for my puppy because sometimes the breeder who has "puppies available" is not the breeder who has the temperament, health and well being of your potential dog in mind; most breeders I contacted had a waiting list (hence waiting for 6 months). If you are in the U.S. check with the American kennel Club to see what breeders they have listed. Even if a breeder is listed it is worth checking into their dogs and making sure that they breed their dogs responsibly. See if you can meet one of their dogs or talk to somebody who has owned one of their dogs.

Years ago my family got a sheepdog from a poorly researched breeder and ended up with a nasty, aggressive, neurotic and destructive puppy who had some serious health issues. The two sheepdogs we have owned since have come from good lines and are the typical "sheepdog". (I say this as I watch my typical sheepdog bouncing around my living room trying to get both the cat, my husband and our other dog to play with him)

Make sure to ask any breeder about the health testing they have done (ask for proof of these tests), the temperament of their dogs, how often they breed their females and if the puppies are raised in their home around people. Sheepdogs are FANTASTIC but they are also prone to hip displaisia, eye problems and a few other problems that a responsible breeder will have done everything they can to help prevent these common issues. A good breeder will be open to asking any and all of your questions and will likely be excited to show off their dogs.

Unfortunately buying a puppy is buyer beware! I am sure people on this forum will have much to add as many have been through the puppy search before themselves.
Did you try Paula Coffman in Liberty, IN? Her kennel prefix is "Hugs". Another good place to give you some leads is the breeder referral link of the national club's website. Go to: http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamerica.org & navigate thru until you find information about breeders & puppies.
Welcome to the forum, you are right to begin your search here. There are so many owners here with vast knowledge of the OES breed. Even after you find your puppy, you will be here for guidance(trust me on that  ).

Do use the forum search engine and look at all the BYB (back yard breeder) threads. They are sometimes shocking and can tell you more than we can in a few sentences.

Good luck in your puppy search, and so glad you found us. Keep us updated.
Unfortunately, the AKC site isn't very selective about the breeders they list so not always the best place to start. I'm in Indiana, just PM me if you want to chat. Not associated with any breeder but would be happy to help.
Read, read, read! TONS of great information on here about what to ask your breeder when you find one you'd like to talk to.

THANK YOU FOR CARING and welcome to our furry little corner of the web!

^^^^ I second this!!! She knows the breed and a lot of people working within the breed. You'll get nothing but honest, straightforward answers.

Good luck in your search and keep us posted!
