sat 6 am take her to the vet..the vet gives her iv hydration, shot for diarrhea and vomiting. she was to take flagyl 2xs a day and probiotics 1xs a day...

the vet just called...she is getting another 10 days worth of flagyl
Poor baby.

She's on all the right meds based on my experience. Maybe your vet will have a different suggestion. And it may just have been a bit of a rush back to normal food, though it doesn't really sound that way to me. You're right to put her back on chicken and rice and hopefully that will slow things back down again and they biggest concern will be dehydration. Though drinking normally and not vomiting is enouraging. Hopefully she'll feel better soon.

Kristine
oh poor baby. hope she feels better soon and you (with the poos and the sicks) just keep with the chicken and rice.
Summer is on Barking Heads, I also have some bonios. I can tell the following day if she has had a bonio, believe it or not, and she adores them, her tum is so sensitive.
Did the vet give a diagnosis, or just prescribe flagyl as a general "this will prob fix it"?
they seem to think it is just a reaction to the surgery...why i dont know....at least not still going on for a week...
No real suggestions right now, but I hope she feels better soon!! :ghug:
Ugh, poopy puppy. :( I hope she feels better soon!
this has me so nervous. in some ways, it reminds me of panda. her shave arm from her iv site, having to hydrate her....sigh....i just need lola falola all better...
take a deep breath she will be ok hugsssss
showgirls are much tougher than they look. 8) she'll be fine, she's just delicate. :wag:
I hope Lola is feeling better tonight :D
we are back on track....my big fear now is that she is skinny!!! she has lost 2 lbs during all of this, but i am terrified to give her a lot of kibble....

last night i gave her 2 cups rice and ground beef and 1/8 cup kibble. This morning i gave her 2 cups rice and ground beef with a little over 1/8 cup of kibble...

i brough 1 cup of rice and ground beef 1/8 c kibble for her lunch...when should i move it up to 1/4 cup???
I'd stick with the slow reintroduction of kibble as you're doing... you don't want her to revert back to diarrhea and loose more ground in the long run. I'd give her maybe 2-3 days before going to the next gradual boost in kibble if the diarrhea had been severe. Hoping she's on her way to being as good as new! :hearts:
just popped in to see how Lola is. I would be really careful about introducing the kibble. I am sure the vet said you can leave them on rice and chicken for 7 days....
How's she doing?
Hope little (?) Lola is a bit better today in the toilet department. xx
her poop is slowly firming up (again)...im feeding her 3x a day 2 cups of rice mixture to 3/16 of kibble..(1/8c plus 1/2 of an 1/8 c)....

but im still a bad dog momma....she was busting at the seams last night...so i thought a little ball in the hallway would be good....on the third throw, she slammed herself into the wall...HOWLED....go racing to her and she wouldnt put her right back leg on the ground....carried her back inside...checked her out...nothing seemed to be broken...10 minutes later she was walking (slowly)..this morning she is walking better and frogging...so im thinking just bruised...

man, i could just cry....my poor puppy has been thru enough without her momma trying to kill her....im an idiot.
Glad to hear Lola is on the mend. :ghug:

:-(

Keep an eye on her knee. But don't blame yourself. Puppies do that to themselves  They're usually pretty resilient so odds are it's nothing. Becky almost gave me a heart attack like that once. :twitch:

kristine
ok,
i'm still lol over 1/16 of a cup which i figure is 2 1/3 pieces of kibble. , but after reading kristine's post, i realize i should try to put your mind to rest. these guys are prone to do this as youngsters and scared the heck out of me many times. she should be fine darcy. 8)

i can't tell my story of the catholic girl and showgirl playing ball in the hallway here. 8O

Eevee got plowed into by a bunch of sheepies at the Sheep-In, went around limping the whole day. She was back to normal the next day though! They're tougher than they act (:
well, she is fine regarding her dance with the wall...back to her spazzy self(sigh of releif)...however, she is still having quite loose stools....

should i cut down on the rice and add more cottage cheese...usually cheese binds them up....she needs to get on her regular food otherwise, its going to look like animal abuse with how thin she is....
how is she with scrambled egg or tuna?
I haven't read all the posts (sorry) but is she on probiotics? I'd be giving her 3 or 4 capsules a day... she's losing all the good gut flora which only makes things worse. Also, did the vet deworm her? (regardless of fecal tests it can't hurt and often helps) I'd definitely deworm with strongid, and if she has ever had a flea I'd also deworm with droncit.
If it were me, I'd deworm, give lots of probiotics, metronidazole, and no food for 24 hours then back on kibble asap. The other diet isn't working so I don't think putting her back on kibble will be worse if it is a high protein kibble. Higher protein helps keep their stools firm, I feed a 26-28% protein to 16-18% fat ratio food and don't run into issues with that. If she's on large breed puppy kibble I'd get her to regular puppy as she needs the calories now.
You can also give pepto bismol....
Ditto to what stacey said, after all she's been through, the upset etc, Probiotics to help balance the gut. :ghug:

As far as the weight loss goes, dont worry darcy when she is up and firing on all 4's as they say that will quickly go back on, your blessed she is a big pupper so the back step in what happened will correct itself if you can balance out what happened after the spaying and the upset to her tum tum.

Still take your time getting her back to her normal diet, dont rush it. She wont be adversely affected by the weight loss and different diet at the moment. If it was me, probiotics, taking time to bring her back to the full diet she was on before all hell broke loose and at the moment keeping the diet for the next few weeks BLAND with increases to her normal diet (Kibble) happening at each stage of increasing the amount, a week in between as you increase that. It might take a good month or so to get her back to normal.

Take the time as you dont want to rush it and have her squirting out again. It wont be detrimental to her or her growth and also you dont want to rush it and have to start from square one again.

Pet shops or vets sell the probiotics, get her on that and take time from the bland food to back to normal diet with her.

Darcy dont want to be a sticky beak but can I ask why you spaded her so young? One of mine years ago any knock out for what ever reason, bad reaction and dicky gut after.

Hope your little possum is on the mend and all back to normal soon. XX
She is taking proviable-dc. A dog probiotic. One a day for 30 days. She is still on flagyl.

Her poop seems to have hardened. I added scrambled eggs and low fat cottage cheese to the rice/chicken- 1/4cup kibble mixture.

We decided, with the breeders permission, to spay her at 6 months. Before her first heat. Her momma, Zoe, came into heat young, and we didn't want her to have her first heat. Right or wrong.
I hope her yummy clears up soon. Sometimes it is a slow process. Good luck.

and we have solid poop for 2 days!!!!!!! fresh cooked sweet potato and chicken seemed to have done the trick!!

i also added 1 tb sp of green tripe to her food...supposedly it is a natural probiotic....it smells horrible, but she seems to love it...

has anyone else tried it?
I haven't tried it and I'd have a solid poop just to avoid trying it. Good choice! LOL LOL

:aww: oh bless, good poos then from now on. 40 years ago I used to get my little yorkies tripe from the butchers, they loved it! I hated it! Soon got them on to something else, feel sick just remembering!
Izzie and Tay eat some tripe as part of their raw diet, but I have never heard that it is a natural probiotic.
