Anyone else excited about SNL's premiere tonight?

Anyone else excited about SNL's premiere tonight?

I am.

Can't wait to see them skewer the politicians.
Election years are always the best for SNL.

And you just know that Bill Hader will mock Clint Eastwood talking to a chair.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's the cold opener.

Here's some clips of Bill doing Clint:

I hate to be Debbie Downer (SNL character, right?) but I am so sickened and saddened and angry by what is going on in the world right now I have no stomach for political humor. :-(

Can we get an Amen?

I haven't gotten excited about SNL since Belushi, Ackroid and Chase were regulars.

Sorry you feel that way guys.
I think skewering politicians is the best way to make light of their boneheadedness.
They're all bozos and deserve to be made fun of.
And nobody does it better than SNL.
Mark, I second that :clappurple: :clappurple: :clappurple: If SNL wasn't on so late, I would be anxious to watch it!
To be fair, it's really all Loren Michaels. He's been the genius behind it all since day one. The three that I mentioned and those who shared the stage during that time had the best ability to execute.

I'd be more apt to watch it if the cast could meet the early days cast's level. However, the jokes and gaffs have been good all along, regardless of subject matter.

I reject the whole premise of "it was funnier years ago" It wasn't.
It's just that our comic sensibilties change over time. What was funny then, isn't anymore.
When I watch the originals, I barely laugh.
And of course the show has it's ups & downs, bad years & good years.
But I've always been able to find good with every cast.

Can you tape or DVR it?
Stay up for at least the first half hour at the very least.
OMG Nobody was funnier or better at what he did than Belushi. Nobody. Ever.
Robin Williams was also a great energy talent but in a different way.

Candy was pretty funny. Farley was OK but got old real quick.

There have been great people on SNL over the years no doubt and a few good casts. But the first years' cast was the best ensemble I think.

Lately by the end of the season the shows have been wholly unfunny. To me, anyway.
I liked SNL a lot when Tina Fey and Amy Poler (I really have no idea how to spell her name, I know poler is wrong but it sounds the same so...). I really wanted to watch it tonight but I had too much stuff to do ): maybe I can find it online someplace.
NBC.com will have it in a few days.

I'll give an AMEN to that! We watched about two minutes last night... Horrible!

I'll give an AMEN to this too!
Last nights SNL premier was one of the best shows I've seen in years, except for the music. Seth McFarland was superb and all of the sketches were great!
I thought the cold opener was good and the other political skit that came later was also good.
I was disappointed by the Clint Eastwood skit; I didn't like the direction they took the bit. It would have been better if it were more like the skits I posted above.
The puppet skit was good, too. Especially the end.

Not speaking specifically about SNL, but I remember in the last year I was up at my BIL's farm and I brought a couple of movies "Animal House" with Belushi and "Super Bad". "Animal House" did not even hold a candle to "Super Bad". The former was lame, simplistic, real cheezy jokes, the latter was sophisticated, very witty and just bust a gut funny, I found it comical that "Animal House" is considered such a comedy standard (though the Blues Brothers is still great).

And speaking of American TV, I think recent comedy like "Arrested Development", "Community", "30 Rock", "Modern Family", "Parks & Recreation", "Curb Your Enthusiasm" are up to better comedic standards than the sitcoms of a generation earlier.

However, I will say the Marx Brothers remain as close to comedy perfection as anything. :D
David,
You so proved my point. Thank you.
It's not that the earlier stuff wasn't funny. It was and in some ways, still is.
It's just that our comedic sensibilities change over time. Just like our taste in music, food, clothes, etc.

I think the new style of sitcoms that you mentioned (I guess they call them "single camera" sitcoms) are the best. I LOVE Modern Family and Parks & Recreation. All of these shows are so smart where older sitcoms relied on jokey 1-liners. Which is fine, too.

Just a different style for a different time.
I cried-laughed at the puppet sketch. I have the humour of a 12 year old boy though :) I loved Kristen Wiig sad when she left. Haven't finished watching started on my lunch. Will watch the rest at home. Stopped at the Puppet sketch because lunch was over and everyone was looking at me.
Hmmmmm, maybe Animal House rates up there I think because it was a genre changer and because of the talents of Belushi.

Much in the way that Star Wars wasn't the best in terms of plot or most of the acting and certainly the sfx have come a long way since then. But it was the genre changer.

Not saying I've thought about this a whole lot... I could be very wrong! :D
I've only seen part of Saturday's SNL, but so far it was hilarious.

I think that "great casts" "ground-breaking movies/shows" and things like that can be a bit generational. Also, taste varies so much that even people of the same time/generation could argue for eternity about things like that.

People also always feel that "their time" was the best...when really it is MY time that is the best :P 8)
