There is another Sheepie in my neighbourhood!!

I live in a neighbourhood FULL of dogs, mostly little toy dogs, labs or retrievers, several weimarners, a couple beautiful great danes, a gorgeous mastiff and even a chow. At any given time of day you will see several people out walking their happy dogs. In all of my years of dog walking and recent half marathon training (I am out and about quite a bit) I have never seen another sheepdog. I have seen 3 or 4 at the local dog parks but never one out "in real life". This morning I was driving home and I saw him; a big, beautiful white and grey sheepdog. He has a TAIL (my sheepie's tail is cropped and most of the others I've seen around here are too) and he was bounding about the sidewalk with that trademark sheepie exuberance. I wanted to stop my car and gawk or go ask them about their dog but there was lots of traffic behind me and no place to pull over. Probably for the best as my neighbours already know me as the crazy dog lady. My friends know how much I love sheepdogs and will actually call me when they see one at the park (rare). I was very excited as there really aren't that many sheepdogs in this part of Canada (the closest reputable breeders are in Toronto... that's pretty far away). Maybe I'll run into him on a dog walk someday, exciting.

That's enough crazy dog lady talk for me right now!

We sheepie people have been known to nearly cause traffic accidents when we see another sheepdog. A friend pulled a fast Uturn, got out of his car pointing to the dog and laughing. The owners weren't sure if my friend was going to steal the dog or not. Friends were just moving into neighborhood with their own sheepdog and were happy to find another fuzzbutt in the area.
Yea, I started to slow down and was considering just stopping but the guy behind me honked his horn :sidestep:

I was raised by a sheepdog lady and had 2 sheepdogs when I was a little one (her love of the breed must be a genetic trait).
Yes, we do funny things when we see another OES. I have gawked whenever I see one. I know people do the same when they see us with Angus. They just have to touch them when you are out walking. Who can resist them? I know I can't!!! :hearts:
Where in Canada are you located?
Love them sheepie sightings! :D
We are in Winnipeg "Where West meets East" and where there is a 80 degree C different between winter and summer temperatures! 8O
Funny story at lunch re: Winnipeg! Lady was relating her travels over the years, she's been "everywhere in the world." One day she told her long suffering husband, we are going to get in the car and drive to the upper Midwest and into Canada......we've been to Western Canada and Eastern Canada, but never central. So up they went through the upper Midwest and into Canada. As soon as they hit Canada it started to rain......and rain.......and rain. When they got to Winnipeg the motel clerk asked what they were doing there......and they explained they wanted to see Winnipeg. The clerk started laughing, "Well you've sure come at the wrong time." The lady ended the story by saying, "And we still haven't seen Winnipeg."
