OOps scared the poop outta him!

It was rare for Merlin to begin pacing in the wee hours of the morning. I recognize that pace and so rouse myself to get out of my comfy bed at 3 am to let him out. I sit on the couch and wait for him. I wait and wait ....tick tick tick...time seems to go on forever. Urg! Surely he must be finished by now!! What's taking so long??

Like any parent, I then begin to worry ..oh what if the back gate was left unlocked? Has something happened? I quickly go to retrieve some shoes and head out in the dark. My motion detector lights illuminates the back yard but I am unable to see my boy. I see movement by the fishpond and walk over that direction. Here's Merlin licking a big rock!!! Sheesh!!

I call his name but he's too absorbed in the strange rock licking. I keep calling him, being mindful it's now past 3 am and I don't want to wake the neighborhood. He still doesn't look up. I bend over and gently touch his back to get his attention.

He jumps nearly three feet off the ground and makes a noise that resembles the roar of a lion and then whimpers and races up the stairs. I race after him and see him shivering as if I've scared the heck outta him ....um which I did. The look he gave me was priceless...the word "sheepish" comes to mind, when he realizes it was me. I think I did scare the poop outta him as he didn't ask to go back out. :D :D :D

Oh my god... Marianne I almost peed my pants. That was so funny.
I scared Pepsi the other night. I was outside smoking a cigarette and he came out the dog door. He didn't see me or hear me when I approached him because the wind was blowing at around 40 mph.. I knew he came out to look for me. He was just turning around as I was reaching to pet him. He too jumped in the air then ran back inside. He them came back out to figure out what had happened...lol

No matter what anyone says about dogs not being able to exhibit human emotions...nah I don't believe it! Pepsi and Merlin stories are perfect examples...we KNOW they were embarressed..hee hee!

Bestdogsx4 - Whew! glad it didn't scare him from asking to go out ...but he still hasn't repeated the 3 am wakeup call!! Yeah!! That's a good thing!
