What a little bugger

Gracie is so easy going and she listens really well...except when she's decided she won't.
Miss Gracie has come to the firm conclusion that no, she absolutely will NOT be crated during the day anymore when we're at work. The big girls are free, she's a big girl now, thank you very much. Kim spent 25 minutes getting her into her crate on Monday, I was home yesterday, today, no way. So Gracie is roaming free now with Virginia and Mady. Hopefully the house will still be intact when Kim goes home at lunch. :plead:

On a related note, Kim is worried she will just stay at her perch all day and bark and growl at the world outside:

She's not worried we'll disturb neighbours or anything, she's worried that it's stressful for her if she needs to bark and growl at the world. I think if barking and growling at the world makes her happy, she'll be happy. What do people think?

I would guess that she may patrol the window for a short time first thing, but then end up snoozing all day. That is what they usually do. 8)
Sounds like Simone. MO has always felt the world needs encouragement to keep on moving past our house....especially if she is not actively racing them down the fence. Glass door or window always has spit spots from her barking.

As long as she is friendly to others and not showing signs of aggression, this is her job.....and her way to amuse herself.

What a great picture!!!! :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:

Love this pic! Takes his/her job seriously!

I was torn on my answer, all the barking and growling this world deserves is a lot to put on to one little puppy...Asia and Violet are doing their part as well. :hearts:
we need to know how she did or ate today being out of her crate---you could put a drape up there
We don't crate either of the dogs when we leave, they both go to the window to watch us leave, and they're always sleeping when we get home.
Curious to see how she does.
In a way Kim is correct - many dogs find having the whole house to watch (vs their crate or room) is overwhelming. That's what is usually happening when you hear stories of people coming home to their house destroyed, couches ripped, etc.
But, with her having mom and sister there, I would guess that the odds of that happening are fairly low...unless she is the top dog in your pack and feels all responsibility rest on her. If she's lower in the pack - should be no trouble. :)
OK, she might get into some puppy naughtiness, but that's a different matter. ;)

Bond's been uncrated day and night since about 5 months - but is gated in the beloved porch with the other dogs. It is pretty well puppy proofed. However - we just have a short section of x-pen set up at one end to barricade him from the open shelving at the far end. It's only about 3 feet tall and he's never gone over it. Since he's respected it, we even store dog food on the other side!

Because learning to be crated is such a valuable skill - he still has been out and about at shows and events in his crate - he's still great with it and chills. :D
An update: so far Gracie is doing pretty well outside the crate, she is so freakin' proud and pleased with herself to not be crated it's adorable. Gracie worships her big sis Mady and now she's just like her. Kim peaked through the living room window on Friday and she was sleeping on her side in her crate, but it makes all the difference that she can choose to go in and out. Ont the 2nd day there were chunks of one of Kim's long-suffering shoes scattered about, and if I didn't bike to work, I'll probably have to search for my bike gloves. It would seem she prefers to stay downstairs, so maybe she's not in her guard perch that often. So Gracie is continuing her rush to be a big girl, while we just want her to stay our little puppy for as long as possible. :aww: :aww:

I can so relate to your last sentence!! They do seem to want to rush it with the influence of the older dogs! Murphy wants to be a 'big boy' and do what they do too!
Teddy has the run of the house and many times I come home to find him sleeping in his crate. He even puts himself to bed when it gets past 10pm. I still crate him while I'm sleeping because I don't want to be woke up early in the morning or when I'm sleeping during the day from night shift, because keeping an eye on those darn squirrels and birds requires running from the front window to the back porch windows. 8O Sounds like a horse running thru the house...lol
