We think it's because of the huge storm that went through today, at least I hope so, because the tech on the phone can't fix it, they can't send me someone to fix it until Wednesday, and if it's the modem itself, they can't send me one of those til Thursday. Four days without internet? Aaah! I won't be able to go on to do school, plus I was helping my friend upload things because she is enrolling in online school, so I can't do that either. And the program I do school on is on an iMac (desktop) so it's not like I can take it to the internet. Stupid school picking programs that only work on mac! I'm getting really close to my graduation deadline too, I need to be working on school stuff right now. Oh, and I can't fill out the form for the sheepdog specialty thing now, either. Maybe I'll have to figure out how to tether my phone again so I can get internet from it. Okay, I'm done ranting. |

| Tethering your phone is so slooooooooooooow that it is frustrating. And the data usage can be expensive. Did you turn off the computer, router and modem (are they separate or the same)? I unplug them from the wall for 15 minutes (which goes by slowly), then plug in the the modem, router and computer in that order. Do you have any lights on the modem and routers? If that doesn't work but you have lights, try hooking the computer directly to the back of the modem. Also, make sure the connections are firmly established. It wouldn't hurt to check/flip the breaker for that plug. Our school internet and phones go out after a little rain storm. We think there is a cut in the line somewhere and the water affects the line. But we just have to wait for the ground to dry out and it works fine. |

I'm on tether right now, it's about as fast as my regular internet (my regular internet is pretty darn slow, and my phone has 3G so they come out about the same). The modem and router are separate. I've reset the modem, unplugged everything, plugged it back in, plugged it into the computer, called tech support, I even went to the ip of the modem and did the connection test there, it says it's failing to sync with the DSL, but there is signal. It's not a normal problem for us. So either something happened to it during the storm, or the modem went bad all of a sudden. The power light and ethernet cable light are on, and the DSL light is flashing but at least it's green. It's still out today, but I'm really hoping it will come back on. I can't tether on the mac, so I can't access my schoolwork at all. |
