New Sheepie mom from KY!

Hello everyone!!

I just became the proud momma of Sponky, a 1 1/2 year old Sheepie that was a rescue. We have been a family for about 4 days now and WOW!! Life with him is anything but boring!! :excited:

I am definitely not new to big dogs (have an Old English Mastiff) but Sponky is more like a clown than a dog!

We have high hopes that he will make an awesome therapy dog and can't wait to get started on obedience classes. As of right now, he is a little lax in manners!

Looking forward to meeting new friends and gaining lots of info on our new friend Sponky!!

Robin

Welcome to the forum from just North of you, OHIO!!!!

Where in KY are you as we have several other members down there.

I host an annual social gathering here in the Dayton, OH area you're more than welcome to come to and of course, so is Sponky! We hold it in late September, so look for posts soon about the Sheep-In!

Oh and we like photos! LOTS of photos!!!

Vance
Welcome from WI, sounds like things are going very well for all of you.
Clown, yep, you've got a sheepdog! Realize it takes a rescue about a year to put aside all the baggage from it's prior life......so be patient with any acting out. Kind, gentle but firm commands now, letting him know what you expect of him will help him get over the transition. They are looking for their leader and the faster they feel comfortable that you know how to lead and are fair (and loving), the quicker they adjust.

Not all are cut out for therapy, but you should see signs even this early of interest in people and nonaggressive behavior. Being clowns helps!

Hope you can hook up with the southern Ohio folks. Used to be a great rescuer in northern KY, but he's passed on. (If I could remember his name I'd mention it)

Susan, if this was Jim S., I hadn't heard he'd passed on. Just doesn't do as much rescue work as in previous years. He has some serious health issues but hope he's okay.

Robin, are you from the Lexington area? Rebecca @ Petsmart told me of a dog in Lexington and that he'd been adopted. Hoping this is your new addition. We have a great group in the tri-state area with OES!
Wait until you get to meet Olive from Louisville... What a sweet girl!!! We almost doggie-napped her last year at the Sheep-In.

Vance
Nita, I think you are right. Bob and he may still be above ground. He retired from rescue but I think I've heard he's back. I may have been thinking of a gentleman in Texas............
We are in Central Ky smack dab between Lexington and Louisville. And yes, Maggie, Sponky is the one that Rebecca from Petsmart was talking about! Small world isn't it?? We are giving him a little time to settle in and then we will be starting classes with Rebecca.

So far so good with Sponky. He did fall out of the bed last night and scared me to death! :twitch: Nothing like being woken to the sound of a large dog falling off the bed and hitting everything within sight! lol Like I said, life will never be boring with this guy!

I am so excited to meet you all!!
welcome from fl can't wait to see pics
Welcome from Wa State!
Congrats on adopting your sheepie! Life with them is anything but boring, you will always be entertained. Now you'll never want to be without one. Careful though they are like potato chips, can't have just one.

Now gotta get those pics up so we can see your silly boy.

Yes, the OES world is actually pretty small and local groups like to get together whenever possible. Hope you can make it to the Dayton Sheep-In in September!

Has anyone mentioned that photographs are mandatory here???
