Off leash dog rant

I had a full grown male German shepherd well over 100 lbs came charging across a busy street at Laika and me.

I moved in front and yelled "get!" As well yelling at the owners to GET THERE DOG! Thanks god he didn't come up all the way, about a foot away. Hackles were raised. Laika gave growl. The dogs ran back to his yard finally
.
OH MY Heart. Thank god Langley wasn't there too.

Why must I be scared to walk my dogs all the time.

Were the people out there watching their dog run across a busy street?

I had leash burns on my hands last week. I was calmly walking the dogs on the sidewalk and this dog comes charging at us barking and snarling. It was so unexpected and both my dogs reacted to the snarling. The women who owned the dog was outside and she called him and walked toward him but did not stop him from lunging. I was working so hard just to get the dogs past this dog and the women walked away.

Thank God that neither of you were hurt.
How scary!!! Those incidences get my heart going. Bugs the CRAP out of me. The anger I get from thinking about my dog getting hurt, my kids getting hurt, AND then towards the owner who is irresponsible ....is so explosive. I feel a lot more reassured now that I carry something with me. Not secure ...just more confident.
They didn't notice, they had kids in the yard and focused on that not until... I yelled your dog. Hmmm I may need to carry something too.
When Valerie mentioned bringing a water gun to the park (for example) ...I thought I'd feel stupid with a big machine gun (i mean that's the only kind that's going to scare a dog off ...one that shoots a really hard steady stream and far out) ...but I love it now and proudly carry in my hand the entire time.

When we went to the dog park yesterday we brought 5 just because the kids felt a need to spray random objects [they know never spray a person or a dog] ;) I wouldn't do that normally because just bringing 4 kids and a dog is a lot to handle, but I was pretty sure when we went that there would be only 1-2 dogs there at the most (it was 7 a.m.). Turns out there were 0.
haha I can just see myself walking down the street with my water gun. Slung over my back.
Better water gun than mace or pepper spray. Air horn? One blast might stop them in their tracks and get attention of brain dead owners.
