Jack

I knew he didn't have many more years, but didn't expect him to go through injury. Neighbor called and said Jack was against the fence with a severe wound. I rushed out and found Jack in shock and his upper left foreleg torn open to the bone with skin and muscle hanging in shreds. We loaded him up and ran to emergency vet in town but he died while being carried into the hospital. We knew he'd have to be put down, there was no way to repair such massive injury.

I don't know what happened. Many thoughts but I'll never know for sure. I will miss his love, kisses, and silliness.....his need to be my constant shadow.

This loss is especially hard...............
I'm just going to have to cry this out.

Thank you ALL for the kind words. I fear Jack's end was due to neighbor dogs. He stuck his leg through the fence, probably in falling down.............dogs next door are mean. The bitch just had pups so extra mean. A couple of years ago Jack stuck his snout through the fence and came away with a splayed open nose. We should have built a solid fence ....something more than the wide wire mesh there now.

Their dogs dig into our back yard, you know now I'm going to run them off, maybe with a beebee gun (though I'm thinking a rifle might be better.......). I can't risk them coming into our the front yard.

It's been awful.

I'm so terribly sorry, Susan. This had to be
just horrible for you to go through too.

:ghug:

Godspeed dear boy...
No one should have dogs like that if they are that mean.
Hugs to you all...what a horrible experience...so glad you were with him. :hearts: :hearts:

Can you file a complaint against them? I know it can't bring Jack back, but these dogs sound dangerous.
It's hard for ME to think about what Jack may have gone thru.
I can't imagine what it's like for you.
My heart is breaking for you & Jack right now.
Poor boy. :(

Do they belong to the same neighbor who called you to tell you he was hurt?

I'd put up a solid wood fence all along any sides that their dogs can get to, and put it into the ground a bit so they can't just dig under. Those sound like very mean dogs.
Oooh such sad news, hugs Susan and family, such a shock to hear and god bless Jack :ghug:
:hearts: I am so sorry for your loss.
I can imagine that this was too though.
Such a good boy. :hearts:
Be happy that you where together at the end.
:ghug: :ghug:
I'm trying this: Jack's attack probably lasted just a few minutes. Afterwards the wound was so great he was in shock (I pray). Prior to that we had over 63 million minutes together........

He wasn't ready to go--he had many more meals and snacks to savor-- and I wasn't ready to say goodby, but we don't always get what we want.

:( That's true! So much happens and we cannot do anything about it
even though we truely wanted it to be very much different. :hearts:
He probable was in shock, now all his pain is gone. R.I.P. Jack. :hearts:

That is so awful that I almost lost my stomach. Can you plant something such as bamboo or blackberries that will take over and create a barrier and is possibly a low cost option?

Also maybe get some pepper spray and entice the dog over and give it a good shot. That may prevent it from coming your way and hurting your remaining dogs. Ordinarily I would never endorse this but in lieu of what's happened it seems extreme measures are called for to protect your pack!

Again, I am so sorry, I can't imagine what's going through your mind!
This is so heartbreaking. I am so sorry.
:ghug: :ghug:
Susan, I am so sorry for your loss :( I'm so glad that you and Jack got to spend 63 million minutes together.
