Some 2012 OESCA National info - Sept 16-20, West Bend, WI

Two months to go till the 2012 OESCA National Specialty. The premium should be out soon. The agility premium is on the OESCA website already. In the mean time, there is a lot of information regarding the event up on the OESCA website, including schedule, rescue parade, the therapy dog parade (suspect Judi will have a lot more to say on that count), seminars, reservation information and logowear ordering information.

In addition to the customary puppy & veteran sweepstakes and regular breed judging, there is an AHBA herding trial on Monday, an OES only AKC agility trial on Tuesday, and AKC OES only obedience and rally trials on Wednesday.

The Therapy Dog parade is on Wednesday, and the Rescue Parade on Thursday. There is even a junior showmanship seminar on Tuesday for those of you who have youngsters who are interested in showing in conformation (in juniors it is about the handling, not the dog, so the OES can be spayed or neutered and need not be a "showdog")

Event closing date (deadline to enter) is August 22 for the competitive events. Other deadlines may vary a bit. Pre-ordering for Logo wear is coming up quickly, July 21st. Some of the reservations and logo wear purchases can be done online via pay pal.

Go to http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamerica.org and then select Shows & Events from the menu on the left and pick 2012 National Specialty

If anyone has any questions, please ask!

Wow - so many people on the forum I've only spoken to electronically have said they're coming - I'm so excited to finally get to meet some of you in person! :-)

Kristine
Lol, yeah that's the upside. I'm looking forward to it too! My issue is that this the busy season at work (June-November) so sneaking away for a week in September is tough, since I've had to take several weeks off in July and August for some medical stuff.

But that's my plan. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Sounds great!! :D
I'm taking Monday off so I can attend the herding event. :clappurple:

I'm not participating (aka not bringing the dogs), but am looking forward to seeing everyone there...
Work has prevailed, sadly. Maybe next year in MO. No election next year!

Have fun everyone!
See you on Monday, Melissa! :D :D

Quail Trail - darn work - sorry you can't make it. :(

Yay! See you there Melissa!
I'm going to leave at 7am and should be there around 9am.

I have a question, what should I bring?
I know I'll need dog food and water bowls, and food, and the crate, leashes, etc. I would think I should bring shot records? I'm probably forgetting things, what else should I have with me?

Yes - shot records. For just in case. I make a copy of my dogs' and keep them in my dog bag in my vehicle. I used to use the copier at work and shrink them and put them in my wallet - but don't have access to that printer anymore. So I just make regular ones at home and put them in my bag.

Also - an old sheet or something similar to cover her crate would be good. It can keep them quiet in a busy area, but also reduces stimuli and lets them nap or rest in privacy. It reduces stress for them. Also - if it is a sunny spot where you need to crate, it gives her shade.
Another good thing is a battery operated fan.

Also - if you bring her registration paper (or a copy) (and I think 3 generation pedigree - not positive on that one, need to check the website) you should do the DNA blood draw for the health registry. Reminds me I need to grab Bond's - Chewie's done, but he's not.
See you soon!

Is that free or no? Jacob is already throwing a fit about how much this is costing. Also I don't have a 3 gen pedigree for her, but I do have one from each of her parents.

There's no cost to donate blood for the DNA blood draw - the OFA and OESCA are collectively underwriting all of the costs, plus we have a volunteer vet and vet tech on site.

If you PM me her registered name and number and her parents' registered registered names and registration numbers and I'll get her added to the OESCA pedigree database and (if you also send me your e-mail address) I can send you a pedigree in jpeg that you can print. Not complicated at all.

Kristine
I sent you a PM just now, thanks (:
One more question, do I need to wear something nicer than jeans for anything I'm in? I'm doing rally, herding, and CGC, I know you're supposed to dress nice for conformation, but I'm not sure about everything else.
herding and CGC - jeans are fine.

Rally is on the border. You certainly CAN wear jeans. Some may. No one will throw rotten tomatoes at them. But there is a rule of thumb, at least for obedience, that says out of respect for your dog, the sport and the judge, you wear something a step up from jeans. Dressy casual pants and a nice shirt or blouse or sweater (depending on time of year) But you absolutely do not need to dress up like they do in conformation and you certainly can wear jeans, ideally nice ones (no rips, paint splashes, muddy paws marks etc :-) )

So my nicest jeans with a really nice shirt would be just fine then? All my nicer things don't fit anymore.

Yup! Sounds perfect :-)

KB
Yep - that's me too.

I have some gray pants, some dressy khakis and new dark dress jeans packed....one of them will be my rally outfit. I have dressier tops/sweaters to wear w/ them - just depends on the weather and mood!
I'm glad you entered rally too :D
I think I'm glad I entered rally, I'm a little worried we won't do well, but we'll try anyway (:
