Vet for Harry, MO worries

Awhile back I noticed swelling in Harry's throat. Finally decided to take to vet yesterday. Of course I was running late and DH had to take him, thankfully Harry cooperates or else DH and his cane cannot handle a dog.......anyway, sub vet as our regular attending family funeral. They aspirated the mass and found blood. Conservative.......hematoma and should dissipate "soon." Worst case, necrotizing tumor surrounded by blood field. So blood panel taken today and since that will probably show nothing, Xrays in future.

MO is slowly fading away. The other night she was stuck in living room in her "bad" position.......imagine rear legs going out 90 degrees from body......the splits. She doesn't bark or cry out, so she was there for hours before she whimpered and I was awake and heard her. Picked her up to find she'd peed and poohed herself too. Takes awhile for the back legs to begin working so I have to guard against more splits.

Jack, who we had written off earlier this year is just fine, OK he has the crazy rear end, legs that don't always cooperate, but he's alert and typical male goofy. We find it fascinating watching him figure out how to walk up stairs. He concentrates, "How do I move my legs???" Helping by supporting only confuses him If he fails and falls, he slides back to the beginning and starts all over. Still on rice....will he have pooh splats forever??

I'm so sorry to hear your furkids are having a rough time of it right now. It sure is harder as they age. Violet who has hd has a tough time getting up sometimes as well, and yes, she does love the tile. Most of my floors are tile. I can only imagine the pain MO must have been in all twisted up. I hope everyone does better today.
Hopefully turns out to be nothing for Harry. Hugs to sweet Mo. :ghug: :ghug:
Oh Susan, I'm sorry to hear the dogs are doing poorly :( Best wishes to them, and you :hearts:
you ready have your hands full it is no fun.. try and hang in there hugs to all of u
That is sad news :( :(

I hope you get good news back fro Harry's lab work. :crossed:

Poor Mo and the splits...ouch!
Wow that is a lot to handle. Poor furbabies and you! Hope all is good ffor Harry and hoping for comfort for the other two. Kisses and hugs to all
Susan, I'm sorry for your worries. Life is so much harder for the oldsters. I'm sending positive thoughts your way for good lab results.
Gosh Susan, it's so tough watching them as they get up there in years and you're in it times three. What great caretakers you two are for your babies. I hope things settle down for everybody.
Hope things work our well for all of you. Hate it when the kids get old and sick.
Hugs to you and gentle belly-rubs to the babies! Poor Mo! Brings back sad memories of Drez when her back-end gave out. Here's hoping you get good results back from Harry's tests. :plead:
It is so hard as they age and begin to fade a bit- :crossed: fingers and paws crossed that all is well for Harry. Hugs for sweet Mo--she sounds like such a gentle and patient soul. Jack seems to be a determined guy--glad he is doing better.

Hugs to you as you care for these sweet babies! :ghug:
Poor babies. They are so good and just accept these things and don't complain-Fred was like that with his legs, had to keep an ear awake for him-you seem to tune into them like when you do have a baby. Hope Harry has good news.x
Haven't heard back from vet re: Harry, but at 5:30 a.m. Jack had a seizure. Never in all my dog days have experienced that! Knew immediately what was going on, failing like a fish out of water, poop and pee leaking out. Just kept him from injuring himself without getting him more excited. Had Paul help me move him onto a blanket so I could clean the carpet from the pooh that the poor dog had rolled around in :| Figured after the seizure he'd sleep. NO! He wanted breakfast and tottered/stumbled out to the kitchen....not graceful but did it all by himself. He fell down and said,"I'll eat here." When finished he got up, stumbled to the couch and got up all by himself......almost. I was able to wipe his hips after his meal so not too much pooh left.

Dog days of summer.
Susan, I am so sorry you and your furkids are going through this. I hope things get better soon.
So sorry to hear about your furkids.....I just wanted to give you a virtual :ghug: and let you know we are all here for you....
It pains me to even read about it. I'm so sorry :( That's so sad to think about the pain she holds in.
...and it sounds like Jack is super stubborn with his great efforts to keep going.
Oh no :( :(

It's really raining bad luck at your house...I'm so sorry.

:ghug:
I'm so sorry, Susan. It's so hard to see our ol' dogs decline.
Hoping things will balance out again soon.

:ghug:
Awww! I have so much sympathy for you, your DH, and your sweet old dogs! What troopers you all are. Any one would be so much to handle - times three. I hope you get good news for Harry. I hope Jack's seizure was just a fluke occurrence and I hope that dear Mo can avoid getting stuck. I hope you have many more good days ahead for the pack. Old dogs are the best and it is so hard to see them slipping. . .
:hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
Awe....this makes me so sad. You and your puppers have inspired me for years. So very sorry you are going through this. It's so hard to see them age. Hoping Jack's seizure was just a one time thing, Harry's blood test come back good and Mo....no more getting stuck, OK?
Came home and there was a prescription for Harry, Doxycyclone. Asked Paul why and he said the blood count was low. Didn't mean a thing to him but I wonder if the vet thinks this could be Erlichiosis?? Did they run a test? We'll give the script a run through and near the end give the vet a call. By then our regular vet will be back from family emergency.

Harry hasn't had a tick in......forever. When we got him he was covered in ticks, but that was 9 years ago. I know the disease can remain dormant......but 9 years??

Belle tested positive for lyme and I can't remember ever finding a tick on her...?

Blood count low may mean vet is concerned about ITP and hedging bets. Could be TBDs, but could also be something like lepto. Oh, yes, Belle tested positive for that once when she was about 12. I pointed out that she was the least likely dog to be exposed as she didn't do much hiking by then, but vet pointed out that wild animal urine could be just about anywhere, including just outside the door. Good point. She wasn't symptomatic but vet became suspicious when we did routine geriatric blood work and her liver values were off.

Since doxy is pretty inexpensive and relatively inoccuous, and things like erlichea and lepto are not, I'm pretty comfortable with a vet reaching for the doxy sooner rather than later, even though I normally oppose under-substantiated use of antibiotics.

:crossed: that whatever it is can be "fixed"/halted in its tracks that easily.

Oh I am so sorry to her this It is so hard when our guys start failing. I so agree with mad dog
