Mattie's skin keeps getting worse

We have been having a terrible time with hot spots this summer. Weekly since May, she has been getting them in different areas. I bathed her on Sunday, and couldn't believe how bad her skin looks.
I have changed her food to a half raw diet, and a half dry kibble. Grain free on both and protein source is fish. Kibble is Castor and Pollux. It has a 5 star rating, and The Honest Kitchen is the raw food. It's dehydrated. Very good rating . Just started both Sunday.
We have no grass this summer due to extreme drought conditions. Could that be causing are problems? I'm confused, no problems last summer. She had skin issues her entire life, looking back t her old vet records.

HELP!!!

I was going to suggest raw. I haven't researched much on the dehydrated. Lucky enough I have someone an hour drive away that I now get packaged food. Easier now than doing myself and lots of variety.

This is what their meal plan sort of looks like http://www.totallyrawdogfood.com/SampleMenu.aspx

But I am sure whatever you are doing it will take time. You mentioned you just start those foods.

Seems like lots of place it has been very dry perhaps the air is dry (not here I run a dehumidifier) Perhaps you need a humidifier?? I don't know just spit balling. Does the vet have her on an meds? Poor thing.

I haven't had to deal with any skin issues, mine were bowel related and that cleared up with the raw especially meaty bones. I had a friend that took his dog off raw and his dog had really bad skin problems after.

I feel so bad for her she is such a little darling.
no real clue just throwing this out there-- could maybe her laying in a pool and possibly staying damp be causing it??? I really dont know- just putting up suggestions....

My Lab is allergic to Bermuda grass ( which is what we have go figure) but is ok with carpet grass ( what my parents have) Our vet gave us steriod pads to rub her feet with. It works pretty well.

Hope your girl gets to feeling better soon. :ghug:
Kristin, we kept a plastic tub of clean, cool water by the back door and washed Ben's feet off when he came in the house. It really helped his feet. He was also allergic to Bermuda and St Augustine. <sigh>
I have a neighbour with a German Shepard that had a rash on his stomach and they have changed him to a raw diet and his skin has cleared up. She's in the kitchen each night cutting up turkey legs with a cleaver to feed the dog. Reminder - be nice to neighbour she knows how to work a cleaver.

Sorry no help but I hope you find an answer soon. Poor Mattie
Hopefully the raw food will help. Does she get supplements? We also give our dogs fish oil pills which is supposed to be good for the skin.
Hope Mattie gets better soon!! :ghug:

Any improvement with the new food?

If you want to try all raw that is not dehydrated/commercially produced with additives (not that there is anything wrong with it, but there could be something there that doesn't work for her :?: ), there are probably a few of us on the board that would be happy to walk you through it/offer feeding suggestions.
