I got braces!

I've wanted braces since I can remember. I think I was 7 when I decided I wanted them, that's 27 years ago! My mum really messed up when I was at school and I didn't get them, which is a shame because they would have been free then! I've not been able to afford them as an adult... until I eventually found a place where you can pay monthly without applying for a loan. I've had them for 2 days and my teeth are sensitive, some more than others. The insides of my lips are cut up but I'm using wax so it's ok. I LOVE them, I'm so thrilled I finally got them :D I think they really suit me too.

They are Damon Qs, they are supposed to widen the pallet for a wider smile. I'll be in these babies for between 18 months & 2 years depending on how fast my teeth move.

Here are some before & after pics.. I'll post some progress ones in a few months time

better late than never applies here cassie. you'll become accustomed to the soreness as they correct. :cheer: :clappurple:

Congrats on getting your dream. Will love to see your updates and the time will go by faster then you think.
one of those things you NEVER regret!!!! :clappurple:
I wanted my teeth straightened when I was a young kid and my mother couldn't afford them. About 7 years ago, I was able to afford braces as an adult and went for it. Never regretted a single penny. Your teeth will be sore for a few days and your mouth will be cut up for a little while but you get use to it.

Best money I ever spent. You willl be so happy when it is all done and you have the smile you always wanted.
My daughter refused to get braces when she was a teen and they would have been covered by insurance. After she was on her own she decided she needed them. Her teeth weren't bad but she has a smallish mouth so there was crowding which has since been corrected.
My mother made me get braces when I was in the 6th grade. Had them for 2.5 years. I'm so glad I did. But it's very common now for adults to have them, and there are so many more types of braces. I had the traditional metal jackets, but my adult friend had the clear plates that fit over her teeth. InvisAlign I think.
you will be amazed at how much your teeth move in the first month alone. Big thing to remember- when you (if you) have to wear rubber bands later to WEAR them! My 2 girls were so bad about not wearing them that they had to wear the braces longer. And another thing-- when you get them off wear your retainer!! Every night. Again- my girls learned this the hard way too.

My son is 13 and just getting started on braces. His baby teeth were being stubborn and wouldnt fall out. Still has one in but the ortho thinks once his teeth start moving it will come loose. Bad thing is he plays trumpet and summer band starts in 3 weeks, so now he has to learn how to play all over again.

If you get tired of digging the wax out they have thin plastic tube like things you can put over the brackets too.
and dont forget....after they come off...you MUST wear your retainer...forever...mine have started to move since i lost my retainers...grrr
I think the retainers will be good for me because I grind my teeth in my sleep- I'm hoping they will stop me or at least protect my teeth a bit! It's great to hear everyone's braces stories :clappurple:
My braces too came as an adult.

My teeth were just about like yours, especially the bottom. Looks like you have good strong teeth too. I do as well, that was one of the selling points my dentist used too - that I would be someone who would have their teeth until the day they die - so it would be a good investment!

Because I was doing it as an adult, and also paying for it myself at a time when it was a definite financial luxury, I was SUPER dedicated to them and really diligent.
I also had the retainers, and have worn them for years on and off after the initial wear period. One thing I recommend is to get the permanent lower one (metal band fixed inside the curve of the lower front teeth) if it's an option for you. I had that in for many years, and it has kept those teeth perfectly straight, even after I had it removed and went to a removable retainer.
When I had my braces, the orthodontist told me not to chew gum. Of course I didn't, I still don't chew gum, 40 years later. And I brush my teeth at least 4 times a day. And floss.

At age 55, I can feel my bottom teeth have started to move. Not anything like they were a age 13, but still I know they have changed. I stopped wearing my retainer in high school.
Good for you! When I was younger I had my two front teeth meet angled. Hated it! My folks never got me braces cost or probably felt it was my own fault I sucked my finger yep finger :| not thumb well past thumb sucking time. Anyways when I had my wisdom teeth pulled they straighten out. Not perfect but good enough :D Funny enough people always say I have nice teeth haha
My teeth arent straight, and ive always wanted them to be like everyone elses. But i cant face the brace idea. Never ever ever will i be brave enough.
Luckily the dentist doesnt feel i need them so. :phew: Im lucky :P

Wont be long until the pain kicks in
Day 6 and going great :D I can feel the tension in my teeth but there is no pain. My lips have gotten used to them mostly, no more cuts. The wire popped out of the last bracket when I was brushing last night. I did a search on YouTube and found a video straight away on how to thread it back through so I managed it myself :clappurple: Right now I LOVE these things!! I feel like a teenager again and have been grinning like crazy (mostly just to scare children) heehee!
:yay:
I had braces in high school (geek!), my sister just finished (think older lady).

My daughter had them in middle school, then had to have oral surgery to cut the ligaments that try to pull the teeth back in their old position. Her braces were part of a study - everytime they got got cold or hot (meals), they tightened a bit. It meant less office visits. She also had headgear to pull out her lower jaw. Add in her backbrace for scoliosis, then her broken arm from soccer. Our 6 million dolllar girl.
