Don't Eat The Cat! (And other issues)

I have a problem - Ava loves the cats - she wants to play with them, and rough-house them. She drags Saatchi, our tiny little female cat around by the scruff of the neck. She never has hurt any of the cats doing it - and the cats are fully clawed and have plenty of opportunity to get away from her, but they DON'T. She is so rough though, occasionally dragging them, chewing on their legs, etc. I'm worried she's GOING to hurt one of them without meaning to soon.

So, what's "high prey drive" vs. "puppy play time" and do you have any suggestions for me so that the kitties don't get hurt? The ferrets are even worse. She REALLY wants to play with them but I have had to stop that completely. I can take video of her with the cats if anyone wants to see what I'm talking about, and judge whether it's malicious, or play time.

Other than that, our new trainer, whom we start with July 9th, has asked me to make a list of the behaviors that are currently driving me nuts, and to come ready to work on them.

I hope she's not overwhelmed with my rough-housing, counter-surfing, cat poop eating, leash pulling, nippy puppy who still poops in my living room.

Eevee likes to mess with the cats, but they don't put up with her nonsense, she nips, and they will not hesitate to scratch her.

I love puppy zoomies!!
Baley and Baxter outgrew their love of chasing the cats! Murphy thinks it is great fun and they do too most of the time--he has been a little rough occasionally but they stand their ground and he hasn't caught them yet.

The next minute he will be sniffing and cuddling them and they really like that. They do like to lick his feet and he seems to enjoy that! :D :D
Omg... I want videos of her with the cats AND the ferrets!!!! Just for amusement!

I would think if the cats aren't complaining, it would be okay. But an"off" or "leave it" command is always a good thing to use when someone forgets how big they are!
Tiggy has not outgrown chasing and rough housing the cat. She is 4 years old.

The cat has teeth and claws and uses them on her legs but is too well mannered to wop her one on the face. I can't decide if that is good or bad as at least she still has her eyes.

When the cat goes her legs she doesn't seem able to feel it through all the coat and just stands and watches him in bemusement.

I know that she wouldn't the cat on purpose but I do worry she will injure him accidently one day. I have a tall cat post and a baby gate so the cat can escape and he does not get in trouble for jumping up on stuff to escape from her.
Georgi just wants too play with Lola but she is a small cat, Lola don't want too play and stays away so her life is a bit sad at the mo & hope Georgi will calm down Sherwood & Lola get on as Sherwood gets on with all Animals and even the ducks we had
Bloo loves cats too! Our Bengal cat loves dogs!
Bloo is rough too, and he has before nipped toffees headand leg :P But she has sharp claws that most times end up sunk in bloos nose.

80/100 times they are nice and friendly with each other lick each other etc... but the other 20 they are loonatics, chase each other. :)

I think bloo wonders what he is sometimes, as dogs have different body language to a cat i.e. when cat wags tail means its annoyed, dogs wag tail it means playtime, so i hink they get confused :P lol
Any updates Roz?

Better. The "mauling" has mostly stopped. I just have to be really sure I catch her BEFORE she gets to the cat, not after she's already got one of their heads in her jaws.

She's acting out a little bit in other areas that she hasn't for awhile - but I think that's down to the fact that she obviously knows SOMETHING is up, because we're moving, boxes are all over, and it's just chaos. So I'm cutting her a little slack on some stuff.

Most interesting fact though: When it's time to go in the crate, apparently, she won't do it for anyone but me. Jason just told me he had to actually put her in. Whereas I just say "Ava! Bedtime!" and she goes.
She knows she has Jason trained but can't figure out how to train you... You have to un-train Jason and have him stand his ground.

So funny! And so true.

When I get my new puppy I'm going to be a better disciplinarian. And not let him hear me laugh at his cuteness!
