Breed standard help for registering my Aussie

Bailey has no registration papers, and to compete in anything AKC she has to be registered (at least that is my understanding.) Now, I have two options, we could try to register as a PAL (purebred alternative listing) or in the Canine Partners program. I don't know which one I'd be better off trying for, and I'm not really sure if there's a benefit to registering in one rather than the other. I don't think she's mixed breed, though her hair is shorter than most Aussies that I've seen which is the only thing I'm really worried about. The person I got her from said she was pure Aussie but without papers. We didn't get her from a breeder, she was a rehome. I'm sure some of you have experience with Aussies, I'll post a couple pictures of her and you guys tell me if you think she looks like an Aussie or not. I read the breed standard and I feel like she fits it, except maybe the coat length, but I haven't seen many Aussies and the ones I have seen seem to have longer coats. The breed standard said a "medium coat", and I don't feel like hers is short but I'm just not sure. She does have all the feathering they talk about and the naturally bobbed tail (according to the people we got her from anyway, it could be docked for all I know). It also doesn't help that I don't know what like half the words in the breed standard mean... Lol, can you tell I'm new at this? Anyway, all help would be appreciated, here's Bailey!

It really won't make a bit of difference with what you can do with Bailey - either way grants her the same privileges. :)

Looking at your photos, you shouldn't have any issue with getting her as a PAL registry as an aussie.
I had the same issue with Riley, our rat terrier. I did the PAL, as I preferred to see him listed as a rat terrier vs all american dog (mixed breed). But in the end, it doesn't affect what they can do in AKC sports - they both require the dog to be altered, and both can participate in exactly the same events. :D
I thought it would work either way, I just wasn't sure if she was really pure Aussie or not. Thanks Dawn! :D Bailey is already spayed, so we've got that part covered. We wanna do the PAL thing, for the same reasons you did PAL with Riley. I just didn't want to pay the fee and then find out she's not purebred enough.
And another question, on the form it asks me what breed and then what variety, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to put there, like are they asking what colors she is or what size, like standard or miniature?
I have 2 pure breed Aussies, Asia and China. Asia is China's niece. Your Aussie looks young so that is why the hair seems shorter. Here are some pics of Asia at about 8 mts old:

Asia is called a Black Faced Tri because she doesn't have the Aussie "mask" and has three colors. She is also big like her Dad, she's 25" at the withers.

This is China, Asia's Aunt. Asia's Mom looks like China

China again.

I hope these pics are some help to you.
You leave variety blank - there are no varieties with Aussies.
That's for stuff like dachshunds, who come standard or miniature; also with coats of smooth, wirehaired or longhaired.

Edit - there is a group making mini-aussies, but they are not recognized within ASCA, nor have they sought AKC recognition.
My agility instructor has them, and also the mini aussie group had their national specialty here in Mankato, MN at The PAW 2 yrs ago.
Thanks Helen, she definitely does resemble them. Should I expect her hair to grow longer as she gets older? She's over a year and a half now.

I'll leave variety blank then. I saw something about minis over on the Aussie forum, something about "a mini Aussie is not an Aussie", stuff like that. They don't seem to like minis much.
Yes, her hair will grow and the hair back near her bum will start coming in. I call it a skirt. lol It does take time. In the above pics Asia was only 8mts old she is now 5 and people mistake her for a bear, so has hair grown in. I don't have any recent pics of her on oes.org, because I have a heck of a time uploading pics here for some reason, but I do have some pics on facebook in you wanted to go to my fb and check out my photos.

I might add China is an average size female at 22" at the withers.
Bailey is 21" at her withers. She does have a lot more feathering than she did when we got her. I saw the pictures, Asia is definitely much fluffier! I guess I'll be looking forward to that, I love fluffy dogs!
Mini aussies are designer dogs. Which means they probably are small aussie mixes or may not have any aussie, just a dog that looks similar to a tiny aussie. Designer dogs are all mutts.
