Dexter's Big Change

About a month ago I noticed a lump on Dexter's lip/cheek about where his whiskers are. A day or so later it seemed to be gone so I thought it was a wasp sting. A few days ago I found it again but now it was larger and had festered into a head. The vet tried to lance it without success and said to put compresses on it over the weekend and if it wasn't down today to bring him back and he would put him under and cut it open. As luck would have it the lump was still there today so back he went.

I really didn't want to put him under for only such a simple procedure so told the vet to neuter him while he was out. He's doing well but I am a mess! I feel like I really bushwacked my buddy.

The lump was fibrous tissue, probably formed around a burr or sticker. He had to cut inside and out so Dex has stitches inside and out on both ends.

I was concerned about how Winston would be since play is still his primary motivation. He has tried a few times to get Dex to romp without success. Dex gives him low warning growls but he isn't worried about them anymore than he was before. He has acutally been pretty loving and cautious with him, cuddling more than rough housing though Dex isn't too interested in that either.

Dex hasn't gotten more than a couple inches from either my feet or my wife's. He's tried to lick his crotch a couple times, when I tell him to stop he does but I have to sleep tonight so............

Looks like Dex will be our athlete and therapy dog and Winston will be our GCH. At least Dex has a couple blue ribbons in his scrap book.

Winston is trying to be a good companion to his ailing big brother:

Both ends! I'd be growly too. Hope the little squirt remains respectful of the patient.
:aww: :aww: poor Dex! Hope he feels better soon!
Oh poor little Dex! I hope that he gets better quickly. :ghug:
ouch - poor Dexter.....I hope the little Winston leaves him alone so he can heal up.
I know here at our house that Bond would be a pure pest to our other dogs!...ok, he already is!
Huge improvement with Dex this morning. He was lying next to my side of the bed when I woke this morning. He normally jumps up on the side of the bed to greet me but this morning he just laid there smiling and let Winston do the exuberant greeting.

He played with Winston a little, tried to romp but after about 2 bounds he decided walking was better.

It makes me feel a lot better that he feels better.
Very good news :D
