The Matts Have Arrived!

So, now that I'm working 6 days a week, Benson's grooming has become a bit - haphazard. We used to settle in with a DVD every couple of nights, and give her a good line grooming during the flick.

Now, I have to be up at 4am for work, which means no more late night movie watching, which means our 2-hour every-other-night grooming has pretty much gone away. Add in that her coat is starting to transition and it is MATT HEAVEN!

Schedules are starting to settle down, so we are finally attacking the matt-monster. We've basically divided her into sections, and work diligently on one section every night until it is matt-free. Comb, slicker, comb, slicker, comb, matt rake, comb, slicker . . . but if anyone has any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them! (We're hoping to avoid shaving her down. She's so beautiful in full coat!)

I bow to the experienced groomers on the board!

That really bites - decreased grooming time that coincides with increased grooming needs!

Maybe work will let you come in later when you explain how important it is for you to have grooming time right now....
yeah, right... :sidestep:

Try "the coat handler" leave in conditioner it is a USA product not sure were you can buy it but try on line/ebay
work small amount into a matt leave it to soak in and work go on to next matt ,tease/pull apart matt 1st matt
I use a bristle and boar brush, a brush you would normaly use on your own hair, hope this helps

Bad timing, darn matts :( I use Cowboy Magic for Charm's severe snarls and tangles. Got it at Tractor Supply, but probably anywhere animal products are sold. it works well, just gently comb them out. it smells good too :D
Depending on the size of the matt, get some thinning scissors snips 3-4 place into the matt, the comb through.
It works for me, last week i was faced with a huge clump of matt under bloos neck, i snipped twice and the matt just 'fell' out when i combed it! These tools are awesome! :)
Sam try not cut the matt out. work around the edges of the matt with your fingers & pull apart. Thats what I do & once comb or brushed out it should be fine also read this from Bob Martin
