Fun or Boring?

Bloo does agility on wednesday nights, weve been going since january. He has come so far hecan do 2 jumps in a row, he does full length tunnel, figure 8 around 2 cones and touch target. He loves to run and have fun! He also loves working, ive found that he isnt happy unless he is doing obidience or agility. (or playing 'rip mommys arm off' )

Weve been going to ringcraft for a few weeks, but im not getting the point, bloo isnt having fun, hes just getting strangled on a tinny lead. I can see blloos feelings and when he wont listen to me and trys to run out the door, that means hes bored and he isnt happy. I think i will just stick to fun companion shows and moesc breed shows. Maybe in the future if i hav another dog its temperment may be different...

Its either paying a fortune for something he loves to do like trials/obidience stakes, or paying a pound to do something he hates doing...
I think im going to let the showing go, even though i like it bloo doesnt, and carry on with the agility/trials. I just want to have fun and you cant get it out of showing bloo, i feel his stress. Any thoughts what to do??

From experience in other areas of life, I will tell you that even if it's free, it's not worth doing if you don't enjoy it. I say pay the money and do something you and Bloo like. If you make him do stuff that bores him, he'll develop an attitude.
Well I would say keep at it as it will help you control him better. He might stop biting you & it might help you to strike a balance as he cannot be mad all of the time. So keep doing it & do both
I agree with Paula. If he isn't enjoying it, nor you, don't waste your time and money. Life is too short. Besides, Agility is more physical and a lot more fun to watch. Bloo wants to flaunt his brains and athletic abilities rather than prove how handsome he is. Besides, he already knows how handsome he is. :cheer: :cheer: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
I'm also going to go with the do what bloo and you like doing. It seems if he's not having fun than no one is having fun. And I agree with dogmom, he already knows he's handsome. Be the best you can at agility and do the showing at fun events like you said.
Do what the dog on hand likes to do. If Bloo likes agility, and we all know he's pure ball of energy that makes the Sun jealous, it's not work to him and in turn not for you. Putting him in a conformation would be like putting a race horse in front of a plow. He'll be bored in no time and start acting up; kinda the way a class clown does and for the same reasons.

Do what Bloo's heart wants to. You'll both be happy.

You keep saying you want another Sheepie... Maybe that one will be your show dog and you can get your conformation fix.

You've got the determination and attitude perfect for either so you'll be fine which ever you do!

I vote for go with what both of you enjoy. If you'd never exposed him to fun things like agility he wouldn't be so bored by ring craft, which is pretty mind-numbing for the dog. I always start my dogs doing fun things and it always bites me in the bum when I have to show them in conformation, but we snooze our way through it and then focus solely on the fun stuff. I do that because I need to show them in breed. You don't.

You can always pick it back up later. I've always thought it's not mentally healthly for puppies, so never push mine into the ring, and he's still a youngster. You may find that in a year or so he's settled down and is a different dog, and then you can always re-evaluate. It doesn't take much training/learning how to handle for conformation compared to other things, so you can easily pick it up very quickly at that time if that's what you decide to do.

Oh, I second and third and foruth the opinions here! If its not fun for Bloo, don't do it! Some dogs excel at agility, obedience, herding, what have you and yet, hat being in the conformiation ring. Who knows? For me, its all about the dog. If he is happy doing something constructive, I say keep doing it! You are such a good Mom!!!
